Insured Postal Items

Registered and traceable items, for which you receive a receipt and which are insured against loss, theft or damage. The insurance amount is set by the sender, but the amount may not exceed the value of the contents of the item or the amount set by the postal operator of the addressee’s country of residence. These items are delivered to the addressee against a signature for receipt.

Letter

In an insured letter, you can send different types of correspondence, passports, diplomas, birth and marriage certificates, pension and judicial documents, lottery tickets, artwork and other important and valuable items inserted in an envelope.

Insured letters are accepted for mailing domestically and abroad.

  • Pay for postage in cash or by card
  • If there is a postage stamp on the envelope, the value of the stamp is not included in the fee
  • Prepare in accordance with the Rules on Consigning Postal Items

Submit it for postage in a dense paper envelope (open) at any post office, attaching a filled-in PS7 form (for domestic items and items to be mailed within the EU) or a CN23 form (for postal items to be sent outside the EU).

Small Packet

In an insured small packet, you can mail industrial, household, cultural goods, food and other items with or without commercial value.

Insured small packets are accepted for mailing domestically.

  • Pay for postage in cash or by card
  • Prepare in accordance with the Rules on Consigning Postal Items
  • Submit it for postage at any post office, attaching a filled-in PS7 form.

Parcel

In an insured parcel, you can mail industrial, household, cultural goods, food and other items with or without commercial value.

Insured parcels are accepted for mailing domestically and abroad.

  • Pay for postage in cash or by card
  • Prepare in accordance with the Rules on Consigning Postal Items
  • Submit it for postage at any post office, attaching a filled-in CP71 form (for domestic items and items to be mailed within the EU) or a CP72 form (for items to be mailed outside the EU).

International parcels must not include items that are prohibited from being imported into the country of delivery, as well as items prohibited from being exported from Latvia. Get more information on prohibitions at the post offices and in the Manual for Acceptance of International Postal Items.

Advice of Delivery

You will receive a notification confirming that the addressee has received the registered item.
 

  • Prepare by filling in a CN07 form, available at post offices. For domestic postal items, you can use PS4 form, available at manspasts.lv.
  • Pay for postage by sticking postage stamps on postcards, letters and printed papers In case of other registered items, charges for additional services are included in the total amount.

Delivery to the Addressee in Person

You ensure that the registered and insured postal item will be delivered directly to the addressee. Postal worker makes a note on the item: Delivery to the Addressee in Person

Such an item is delivered neither to an office administrator or any other person responsible for receiving mail, nor to an authorized person.

  • The item is prepared only together with additional service “Advice of Delivery”
  • Pay for postage by sticking postage stamps on postcards, letters and printed papers

In case of other registered items, charges for additional services are included in the total amount.

Cash-on-Delivery (COD) Item

The addressee receives the item only after paying the COD amount you have specified. This amount may not exceed the insurance amount.
 

Apply for this by filling in a form.

For insured domestic postal items:

  • Transfer order PNS-041 – for receiving the COD amount via postal transfer
  • Payment order PNS-020 (for payment to another person’s PSS account) – for transferring the COD to a current account of the postal settlement system (PSS)
  • Transfer order PNS-040 (for payment in cash to a credit institution) – for transferring the COD amount to a current account in a credit institution

For insured international postal items:

  • MP 1bis (international postal transfer of the COD amount)

Confirmation of the Contents

You receive a postal worker’s confirmation of the contents of the item.

This additional service is offered for insured domestic small packets and parcels. In case of insured letters, confirmation of the contents is mandatory and the fee thereof is included in the total amount.

Apply for this by filling in a form at any post office. When accepting the item, the postal worker compares the contents with the list thereof in the form.

Home Delivery

When mailing a domestic parcel, you can pay for the delivery directly to the specified address.

Important for the addressee of an item!

If the additional service is not applied for, the item can be delivered to the address upon the addressee’s request.

After receiving a notification to pick up a postal item at the post office, please call the number specified in the notification and order the additional delivery service. You will be charged at the moment of delivery.

Postal items are delivered to legal entities as agreed or according to the agreement concluded.

You can apply for additional service “Changing the Data of a Registered Postal Item” to change the delivery address of the item and receive it at a more convenient location.

e-invitation

Important for the addressee of an item!

You will receive an SMS about the item received, address of the post office, where you can receive the item, and a reference for inquiries.

To receive the item, present the SMS received, tell the tracking number and your personal information and present an identity document.

The additional service is provided free of charge.

Cumbersome Parcels

You can mail parcels of a non-standard shape and size:

  • For domestic parcels, the sum of length and the largest perimeter up to 450 cm, neither dimension may exceed 200 cm
  • For international parcels, the sum of length and the largest perimeter up to 300 cm, neither dimension may exceed 150 cm.

Weight restrictions are the same as for standard parcels. You may also use additional service “Fragile (Colis Fragile)”.

Label “Cumbersome Parcels (Encombrant)” is put on the item.

Half of the total value of the item is added for “Cumbersome Parcels” and “Fragile (Colis Fragile)” postal items. The additional service fee is added to the total postage fee of the items.

For international shipments, the availability of the additional service is determined by the postal operator of the addressee’s state of residence.

Fragile (Colis Fragile)

You can mail parcels with fragile contents, when special care is needed throughout the delivery.

Pack the parcel according to its weight, shape and content to ensure its preservation during the transportation. Otherwise, we can refuse accepting the particular item.

Weight and dimension restrictions are the same as for standard parcels. You can also use additional service “Cumbersome Parcels”.

Label “Fragile (Colis Fragile)” is put on the item.

Half of the total value of the item is added for “Cumbersome Parcels” and “Fragile (Colis Fragile)” postal items. The additional service fee is added to the total postage fee of the items.

For international shipments, the availability of the additional service is determined by the postal operator of the addressee’s state of residence.

Insured postal items can be mailed as priority (Class A) or economical (Class B) items.

Domestic priority mail is delivered on the following business day, while economical mail – within 3 business days. Parcels are delivered within 4 business days.

Items to be mailed abroad are accepted as either priority mail delivered immediately by the fastest means of transportation, mostly by airmail, or as economic mail delivered by airmail if possible.

The maximum weight of an international parcel is set by the postal operator of the country of delivery.
