Latvijas Pasts to automate letter processing

Thus, the company prioritises investments in infrastructure modernisation and process automation. Funding for the implementation of the project has been secured through the programme provided by the Development Finance Institution Altum for digital transformation of companies.
The set includes three automated letter processing and sorting machines, along with an equal number of postal item processing stations, which will be fully tailored to the specific needs and functions of Latvijas Pasts’ operations. The set will additionally incorporate optical character recognition technology, facilitating the recognition of handwritten information on items.
“Until now, processing letters has demanded significant resource allocation, making the automation of this cycle an essential step for the company’s future growth. The question of how to work smarter and more efficiently is relevant both to the national economy as a whole and to the industry. That is why we decided in favour of investing in this equipment,”Andris Puriņš, Acting Chairman of the Board of Latvijas Pasts.
A. Puriņš adds that the new solutions will offer numerous benefits, including higher value letter processing, improved efficiency in mapping delivery routes, more comprehensive information regarding items and increased support for employees, particularly postmen, in their daily tasks.
This will allow the company to automate up to 95% of the processes in the letter processing cycle.
“The support programme for the digital transformation of companies provides a compelling funding solution, which includes full or partial repayment of the principal amount of the Altum loan with a capital discount, thereby improving the return on the project. This presents a valuable opportunity for companies of various calibres to leverage state support for the digitisation of processes and the modernisation of solutions, ensuring they remain contemporary and one step ahead of their competitors. Companies across diverse industries are taking advantage of the programme’s opportunities, and we are pleased to extend our support to Latvijas Pasts, a significant company for Latvia, which has ambitions for growth and development,”Reinis Bērziņš, Chairman of the Board of Altum.
The acquisition of a set of letter-post item processing and sorting equipment is part of the digitisation project, through which SJSC Latvijas Pasts aims to advance digital transformation by automating the processing and sorting of letter-post items, while also significantly expanding the parcel locker network in Latvia. The company is implementing the project in cooperation with the Development Finance Institution Altum within the European Union’s Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF) under #NextGenerationEU.
