The history of “Latvian Post” dates back to the 13 th century, when mail began to be used for official correspondence. in 1632 a regular public postal system was established in Riga. Restoring independence created new postal offices and issued the first postage stamps. Today, Latvijas Pasts is an important institution providing postal services at national and international level.
The Latvian Postal Council shall represent the interests of the holder of State capital shares and supervise the work of the board of directors of the undertaking. On the other hand, the board of directors of Latvijas pasta organises and manages the work of the company on a daily basis, in cooperation with the shareholder and Council.
World Postal Union (PPS): 's most important organisation in the field of postal exchange. Latvijas Pasts represents Latvia in the PPS and acts in the decisions it has taken.
PostEurop: the Trade Association, which has represented the interests of European postal operators since 1993. The Latvian Post participates actively in PostEurop committees and working groups.
International Postal Corporation (SPC): a global postal service provider bringing together 23 Member States. Latvijas Pasts uses SPC solutions to improve international shipments.
