Applications on Domestic Postal Items

You can change the initial conditions of delivery and receipt of a registered postal item

  • by submitting a relevant application at the post office and attaching the necessary supporting documents,
  • by drawing up the  electronic application and making a non-cash payment. Please see additional information here.

A domestic postal item is a postal item mailed within the territory of the Republic of Latvia.

A registered postal item is a postal item, for which the sender is issued a receipt confirming that the postal item has been delivered at a place of providing postal services, and which is delivered to the addressee against a signature.

Changing the Address of a Postal Item

Forwarding a particular registered postal item to another address in Latvia or correcting the incorrect address specified on an item.
 

In accordance with the Postal Law and the Universal Postal Convention, the sender shall be responsible for specifying the address on a postal item.

If you are the sender - you can apply for the service at any post office by submitting a completed application and presenting the original check or receipt of the postage.

If you are the addressee and you know the tracking number, you can apply for the service at any post office by submitting a completed application.

The application must include the following information:

  • The number of the postal item
  • Full name and contact information (contact phone number and e-mail) of the sender
  • Full name or title (in case of a legal entity) of the addressee
  • The initially indicated address, to which the item is addressed
  • The new address, to which the item shall be sent

The application is reviewed no later than within three business days.

Changing the addressee of a postal item

Changing the addressee of a single registered domestic postal item.

In accordance with the Postal Law and the Universal Postal Convention, the sender shall be responsible for specifying the address on a postal item.

If you are the addressee, you have to contact the sender, and they shall contact “Latvijas Pasts” with an application for changing the addressee.

If you are the sender, you can apply for the service at any post office by submitting a completed application and presenting the original check or receipt of the postage.

The application must include the following information:

  • The number of the postal item
  • Full name and contact information (contact phone number and e-mail) of the sender
  • Initially indicated full name or title (in case of a legal entity) of the addressee
  • Full name or title (in case of a legal entity) of the new addressee
  • The address of the addressee
     

 The application is reviewed no later than within three business days.

Advice of Delivery of the Item (Advice)

The sender and the addressee shall be entitled to request information on delivery of the item within six months from the day of submitting a registered or insured domestic postal item for postage, if you need a signature and the exact date of delivery of the item.

If you are the sender - you can apply for the service at any post office by submitting a completed application and presenting the original check or receipt of the postage. If the additional service “Advice of Delivery” was used when registering the postal item, but no advice has been received, the sender shall not be charged the service fee.

If you are the addressee and you know the tracking number, you can apply for the service at any post office by submitting a completed application.

The application must include the following information:

  • The number of the postal item
  • Full name or title (in case of a legal entity) and contact information (contact phone number and e-mail) of the sender
  • Sender’s address
  • Full name or title (in case of a legal entity) of the addressee
  • The address of the addressee

The application is reviewed within a month.

Prolongation of the Storage Term of a Postal Item

The sender and the addressee shall be entitled to prolong the storage term of a postal item at the post office for up to two months as of the day of receipt.

If you are the sender - you can apply for the service at any post office by submitting a completed application and presenting the original check or receipt of the postage. 

If you are the addressee and you know the tracking number, you can apply for the service at any post office by submitting a completed application.

The application must include the following information:

  • The number of the postal item
  • Full name or title (in case of a legal entity) and contact information (contact phone number and e-mail) of the sender
  • Full name or title (in case of a legal entity) and contact information (contact phone number and e-mail) of the addressee
  • Prolonged term of storage of a postal item

The application is reviewed no later than within three business days.

*In case of parcels and small packets, an additional fee for the storage of the item at the post office is charged – EUR 0.50 for each day (excluding holidays and public holidays). Storage fee is not charged for international small packets, the weight of which does not exceed 500 g.

Changing the COD Amount of a Postal Item

The sender is entitled to decrease or increase the initially established COD amount.

Attention! The new COD amount also must not exceed the insurance amount of the postal item.

If you are the addressee - you have to contact the sender, and they shall contact “Latvijas Pasts” with an application for changing the COD amount. 

If you are the sender - you can apply for the service at any post office by submitting a completed application and presenting the original check or receipt of the postage.  

The application must include the following information:

  • The number of the postal item
  • Full name and contact information (contact phone number and e-mail) of the sender
  • Sender’s address
  • Full name or title (in case of a legal entity) of the addressee
  • The address of the addressee
  • Initially specified COD amount
  • New COD amount

One may submit the filled-in application at any post office. The application is reviewed no later than within three business days.

Cancellation (Returning) of a Postal Item

The sender is entitled to receive back the registered postal item they have mailed.

The service can only be provided if the postal item has not yet been delivered to the addressee; to find out, whether the item has been delivered, call the info line for customers of “Latvijas Pasts” – 27008001, 67008001 – or check the status of the item.

If you are the addressee - you have to contact the sender, and they shall contact “Latvijas Pasts” with an application for cancellation of the postal item. 

If you are the sender - you can apply for the service at any post office by submitting a completed application and presenting the original check or receipt of the postage.  

The application must include the following information:

  • The number of the postal item
  • Full name and contact information (contact phone number and e-mail) of the sender
  • Sender’s address
  • Full name or title (in case of a legal entity) of the addressee
  • The address of the addressee

To speed up the processing of the application, the sender can pay for the fax service at the post office when submitting the application.

Upon receipt of the returned item, the sender shall bear the additional actual costs, if any (e.g., storage of the postal item).

“Latvijas Pasts” does not pay back the initially charged return fee in the following cases:

  • If the sender has paid for the postal item with postage stamps
  • If the postal item has been mailed from the post office of dispatch or has been submitted for storage

“Latvijas Pasts” pays back the initially charged return fee, if the item has not been mailed yet and is located in the post office of dispatch.

An application may be submitted by the sender only.
