11.12.2013

In preparation for the processing of payment transactions in euros, Latvijas Pasts has announced changes in the operation of the Postal Payments System in December. The last working day when it will be possible to conduct transactions within the Postal Payments System in 2013 is December 28. Starting from the first working day of 2014 - January 2 - the system will work as usual, enabling customers to make quick and easy payments between accounts of the Postal Payments System, make transfers to credit institutions, and deposit and withdraw cash at all postal service locations.

December 27 is the last day this year when customers will be able to deposit cash and pay bills within the Postal Payments System at the mail carrier or in local government premises. At post offices it will be possible to receive all services of the Postal Payments System - cash deposits and withdrawal, transfers to credit institutions and payment of bills - until December 28, or until December 29 at post offices located in shopping malls.

Only post offices located in malls will be open on December 30. On that day, it will not be possible to conduct money transfers to credit institutions, and on December 31 the payment system's services will not be available. On January 2, 2014, all services of the Postal Payments System will be available to customers at all postal service locations.

Latvijas Pasts reminds that holding an account with the Postal Payments System is the safest way of transitioning to the euro, as in that case it will not be necessary to go to a post office and return with cash savings in the beginning of 2014. All funds in accounts of the Postal Payments System will be automatically converted to euros. It is possible to open an account free of charge at any Latvijas Pasts office, and it allows making money transfers to a natural or legal person's account both within the Postal Payments System and at a bank - both in Latvia and abroad. The account also allows conveniently paying for rent and utilities, receiving pension or benefits.

In order for money transfers and payments at the end of the year to reach the recipients on time, we request to conduct all transactions within the Postal Payments System by December 28.
