Amount of mail at Latvijas Pasts increasing during year-end

Each year during the Christmas season, the amount of mail at Latvijas Pasts increases - during the holidays, people still send both handwritten greetings and gifts to their loved ones. In December 2013, the amount of both domestic and international letter correspondence and packets delivered by Latvijas Pasts has grown.

In the period from December 1 to December 17, 2013, more than 38 tons of regular domestic and international letter correspondence were sent via Latvijas Pasts; 37 tons were sent in the same period last year. The amount of packets sent compared to last year has increased by nearly 40%.

Christmas greetings mostly travel within the territory of Latvia. However, residents of Latvia send and receive letters also to and from family and friends living abroad. During the holiday season, the biggest amount of letter correspondence is received from and mailed to the United Kingdom, Ireland and Germany.

Latvijas Pasts employees each year process letters that have no addressee specified, have an inaccurate address, or do not have stamps of the right value affixed. This can not only cause letters to travel longer, but even to not reach the addressee at all.

Each year during the Christmas time, Latvijas Pasts receives letters addressed to Father Christmas. This year as well we received many letters on which the address was not specified, but the addressee was Father Christmas, Grandfather Frost or Snow White. In spite of that, Latvijas Pasta employees deliver these messages to Father Christmas's Office, which is located in Ziemupe, Vērgale parish. Messages that indicate Santa Claus or Grandfather Frost as the addressee and have a stamp of the correct value affixed travel to Finland or Russia, respectively.

Latvijas Pasts reminds that the last mail delivery date before Christmas is December 20, and the last delivery date before the New Year is December 28.
