Special free account for exchange of lats for euros can be opened with Postal Payments System at Latvijas Pasts

27.12.2013

To ensure convenient and safe exchange of lats for euros, Latvijas Pasts invites customers to open a special lats exchange account with the Postal Payments System in the first two weeks of January. Depositing lats until January 31 will enable withdrawal of cash in euros free of charge.

In the beginning of next year, from January 2 to January 14, any resident of Latvia - a natural person - may open a special payment account with particularly favorable conditions for exchange of lats for euros.

By opening a lats exchange account in the first two weeks of 2014, the customer, starting from the fourth working day after the opening of the account, will be able to withdraw cash in euros free of charge until January 31. If the customer wishes to withdraw cash in the first three days after opening the account, or after January 31, the fee will be 0.1% of the withdrawn amount. Lats will be exchanged for euros in accordance with the official exchange rate: 1.42 euros for 1 lats.

The lats exchange account with the Postal Payments System can be opened at any post office throughout Latvia; the opening of an account is free of charge for natural persons, and in January 2014 it allows withdrawing cash in euros free of charge, as well as to make money transfers at any time to a natural or legal person's account both within the Postal Payments System and at a bank - both in Latvia and abroad. The account also allows conveniently paying for rent and utilities, receiving pension or benefits.

Cash can be deposited into and withdrawn from a Postal Payments System account at any Latvijas Pasts post office. To withdraw an amount in excess of LVL 3,000 or EUR 4,300, it is necessary to make a reservation at the respective office. The customer must visit the post office with an identity document three days in advance and submit an application, indicating the amount to be withdrawn. Three days later, upon presenting an identity document, it will be possible to withdraw the specified amount at the same post office.

In addition, Latvijas Pasts, in accordance with the Cabinet of Ministers regulation on the postal service provision locations for exchange of lats for euros, will provide free exchange of lats for euros from January 2 to March 31, 2014, at 302 post offices in areas of the country where bank services and ATMs are not available. Latvijas Pasts will allow people to conveniently exchange cash already on the first Saturday of 2014 - January 4 - when the 302 post offices will work in accordance with Friday's schedule, including the offices that are normally closed or work shorter hours on Saturdays.
