15,000 euros donated at post offices for Ziedot.lv charity campaign For the Little Hearts in less than one-and-half month

In less than one and a half months, from the beginning of December, 2013, to January 14, 2014, when the two-week dual currency circulation period ended in Latvia, nearly 15,000 euros have been donated at Latvijas Pasts offices for the Ziedot.lv charity campaign For the Little Hearts; the funds will be used for the treatment of eight seriously ill children. Collection of donations at post offices will continue at least until the end of May, and the donated funds will be used for treatment and rehabilitation of children in all regions of the country.

From the beginning to the middle of December, more than 600 donation boxes were gradually placed in all Latvijas Pasts post offices, and any customer can use them to support the Ziedot.lv charity campaign for seriously ill children For the Little Hearts. In less than one and a half months, taking into account the Christmas and New Year's holidays, the company's customers have shown great activity by donating approximately 15,000 euros.

The funds donated so far will be used for the treatment and rehabilitation of eight children. Four children from Riga will receive dolphin therapy, intense rehabilitation courses and special training using the PECS method. Four children from Smiltene, Jelgava, Krāslava and Roja will receive dolphin therapy, rehabilitation in Latvia and international rehabilitation in the best clinics.

Assistance as part of the charity campaign is needed by 143 children who require regular treatment and rehabilitation for the improvement of their health and quality of life for a total amount of 391,612 lats. Because of that, collection of donations for this program at Latvijas Pasts post offices will continue at least until May.

"On behalf of Latvijas Pasts, I wish to express sincere gratitude to all of our customers who have chosen to use their saved up coins in this way, by donating them to charity, and also to those who are still planning to do it," says Latvijas Pasts Chairman of the Board Arnis Salnājs.

"Latvijas Pasts has delivered wonderful news to the families of eight seriously ill little children. Thanks to the donations of Latvijas Pasts customers and employees, already eight children from all over Latvia will receive the much needed treatment and rehabilitation for a more fulfilling life," says the head of charity organization Ziedot.lv Rūta Dimanta.

The donations as part of the campaign For the Little Hearts are used to pay for rehabilitation programs available in Latvia, for example, in Vaivari, Līgatne or Baltezers, as well as in specialized health care centers outside Latvia. Latvijas Pasts and Ziedot.lv urge everyone not to be indifferent and to help the ill children of their region:

· In Riga, assistance is needed to 76 children for a total amount of 327,823 euros;

· In Vidzeme, assistance is needed to 14 children for a total amount of 31 818 euros;
