Latvijas Pasts now offers customers to authorise another person to receive shipments by issuing a letter of authorisation in the post office

Latvijas Pasts now offers its customers the opportunity to issue a letter of authorisation in any of its 545 post offices for another person to collect their registered or insured mail. This will speed up the receipt of shipments for those customers who are unable to receive their mail at a specific time. Therefore, if the customer already knows that he or she will not be able to collect the shipment, he or she can visit the post office and write a letter of authorisation, indicating the name and identity number of the authorised person. Up until now, shipments handled by Latvijas Pasts could only be collected by another person holding an authorisation certified by a notary public or an Orphan's court.

Latvijas Pasts workers are often confronted with situations where another person wants to collect mail on behalf of someone else, yet he or she does not have a letter of authorisation, and going to a notary public or an Orphan's court for such authorisation seems too complicated. In order for the customer to receive mail as quickly as possible through another person, Latvijas Pasts now offers the opportunity to issue a relevant letter of authorisation in its post offices.

To issue a letter of authorisation, the addressee should go to the post office, show proof of identity (a passport or identity card) to the postal worker and inform the worker of the name and identity number of the authorised person and the period for which the authorisation is valid. The customer can also authorise another person to receive all mail addressed to him or her for an indefinite period of time. The authorised person is not required to be present at the moment of making the letter of authorisation. The addressee is entitled to issue or revoke the authorisation in any post office. The location of the nearest post office can be found here.

Before receiving the mail, the authorised person is required to show the letter of authorisation and proof of identity (a passport or identity card) to the postal worker. The authorised person is entitled to receive shipments both at home and in any post office.

The addressee may also go to a notary public or an Orphan's court to authorise another person to receive mail on his or her behalf. The letter of authorisation must include the name and identity number of the customer and the authorised person and give the appointed person the authority to receive shipments addressed to the customer at Latvijas Pasts.
