Latvijas Pasts to send 25,000 greeting cards to mothers across Latvia; use of mobile devices doubles during card campaign period

08.05.2014

Following the traditional Latvijas Pasts call for sending greeting cards through social networks to celebrate Mother's Day, a total of 25,000 cards are to be delivered to mothers across Latvia. Most recipients are from Riga, Liepaja and Jelgava. Twitter users filled out the 15,000 cards reserved for the campaign in slightly more than six hours, while Facebook account holders filled out the remaining 10,000 cards in eight days. The number of people who took part in the campaign to celebrate Mother's Day by sending a greeting card has increased by 7,000 as compared to the similar campaign held exactly one year ago. There has been a nearly two-fold increase in the number of participants who used a mobile device - a mobile phone or a tablet - for filling out the cards, instead of a conventional computer.

To promote the tradition of sending postcards among the audience using mainly the virtual environment for everyday communication, Latvijas Pasts, for the fourth year in a row, offered all Twitter and Facebook account holders to send greeting cards to their mothers, grandmothers, wives or girlfriends through the dedicated website www.nosutipastkarti.lv starting from April 28. Latvijas Pasts is set to deliver the accurately completed greeting cards to moms throughout Latvia just before the holiday.

Traditionally, the most active participants of this year's campaign were Twitter users: 14,000 account holders filled out 15,000 postcards in a little more than six hours, while 7,600 Facebook users completed 10,000 cards within eight days. Most greeting cards will be delivered to moms in Riga, Liepaja and Jelgava, as well as Valmiera and Ventspils. A total of 14,322 virtual thank you's have been said to mothers across Latvia through www.nosutipastkarti.lv. On the first day of the campaign, the site www.nosutipastkarti.lv was visited 33,000 times.

The total number of participants in the greeting card campaign dedicated to Mother's Day has increased by 7,000 as compared to the campaign held in 2013, which attracted 14,456 Twitter and Facebook users. This year there has been an almost two-fold increase in the number of Twitter users who filled out the cards on mobile devices - mobile phones or tablets. Last year, 25% of participants used mobile gadgets, while this year such gadgets have been used by 45% Twitter account holders.

In 2012, 5,883 Twitter users sent 8,500 cards within less than an hour and in 2013 it took 11,154 Twitter users less than six hours to fill out 15,000 cards, while 3,302 Facebook account holders filled out 5,000 cards within less than a day.
