27.11.2014
The Greeting House of Latvijas Pasts is opening its doors to visitors at the annual Christmas market in Dome Square on November 29, inviting everyone to send a holiday greeting or a letter to Father Christmas with beautiful and original Christmas stamps and special Greeting House cancellation. This year, December 23 is the last day for mail delivery before Christmas. To make sure that season’s greetings and presents reach the addressees on time, Latvijas Pasts urges not to put off the mailing to the last minute.
The Greeting House will be open every day from 10 AM to 8 PM until December 30, and from 10 AM to 2 PM on December 31. Any addressee will particularly enjoy a greeting sent from the holiday market with the newly released Christmas stamps, designed by the artist and rector of the Art Academy of Latvia Aleksejs Naumovs and featuring peaceful Christmas sceneries. Any visitor to the Greeting House who buys any of the new Christmas stamps will be offered to choose an original greeting card for free, cancel it with the special Greeting House cancellation and mail it to a loved one right from the Greeting House.
Various Christmas postcards, calendars for the next year, small gifts and souvenirs will be also available for purchase at the Greeting House. In addition, Latvijas Pasts will offer to buy two different sets of stamps composed of stamps dedicated to one theme and released over multiple years. One set includes stamps in the Christmas series, and the other one – stamps depicting significant architectural sights of Latvia. Each set will contain stamps with denominations in both lats and euros. After December 4, when Latvijas Pasts issues the last stamp in 2014, visitors to the Greeting House will have the opportunity to buy a set of all stamps released this year. At the Greeting House, it is also possible to send gifts purchased in the Dome Square market and receive information about the services of Latvijas Pasts.
Latvijas Pasts reminds the little residents of Latvia to remember to send a letter to Father Christmas and urges their parents to make sure that the correct address is indicated on the letter and stamps with suitable denomination are affixed, so that the letter successfully reaches the addressee.
All letters sent by children to Father Christmas will be delivered by Latvijas Pasts to the mailbox of Father Christmas’s office in Latvia. If the recipient indicated on the letter is Santa Claus or Grandfather Frost, the letter will go to Finland or Russia, respectively. For the letter to reach Father Christmas’s mailbox, the correct address must be indicated and stamps with suitable denomination must be affixed. A regular letter to Father Christmas in Latvia can be sent by using a stamp with a denomination of EUR 0.50, to Santa Claus in Finland – with a denomination of EUR 0.71 and to Grandfather Frost in Russia – with a denomination of EUR 0.85.
