Latvijas Pasts sets up additional counter at Valka post office No. 1 to ensure convenient payment services for residents and institutions

In order for the customers from Valka city and municipality to continue to perform various cash and non-cash transactions in a user-friendly way, Latvijas Pasts has established an additional dedicated counter at Valka post office No. 1 which will be primarily targeted to the provision of payment services. Latvijas Pasts has also spoken to the local governments of other municipalities about cooperation possibilities related to rendering convenient financial services to people in places where other payment infrastructures are not available.

On February 16, 2015, Valka post office No. 1 is opening an additional counter in order to make the financial services more accessible and convenient for the local residents, institutions and out-of-town visitors. This counter will primarily deal with all kinds of payment services, while the rest of the time the customers will be able to receive other services provided by Latvijas Pasts. Already today, every customer who has opened a payment account with Latvijas Pasts (a Postal Payments System account) has access to a complete and high quality range of financial services – cash deposits and withdrawals at more than 600 postal services locations throughout Latvia, money transfers to another person’s account with Latvijas Pasts or a credit institution in Latvia or abroad, payments of bills for different services, etc.

Furthermore, the payment services offered by Latvijas Pasts provide residents with a convenient and low-cost way to pay the bills of the local government and the companies operating under it, as well as to reduce the costs of the local government and its companies as regards the management of their cash operations. In January, compared to previous months, the number of payment accounts opened by private individuals with Latvijas Pasts at Valka post office No. 1 increased five times. There was also an increase in the number of cash deposits in the customers’ own accounts and accounts of other persons opened with Latvijas Pasts, as well as the number of transfers made to credit institutions.

Arnis Salnājs, Latvijas Pasts Chairman of the Board, stresses the importance of cooperation between the two parties: “Latvijas Pasts with its wide network of post offices makes it possible for people in both urban and rural areas to carry out regular financial transactions in a convenient, quick and efficient manner – to pay bills, withdraw cash and make transfers, as well as to use other financial services offered by the company. In turn, a payment account is a tool for companies and institutions to reduce costs and ensure a new quality of future activities, while for Latvijas Pasts this is an opportunity to expand the range of financial services and to develop further cooperation with local governments in other matters.”

Valka Municipality Council has also opened a payment account with Latvijas Pasts, and Vents Armands Krauklis, Mayor of the Municipality, welcomes the collaboration: “Valka Municipality Council appreciates the fact that Latvijas Pasts has been highly supportive. The support coming from the company will help us solve a significant proportion of the problems that arose due to the shutdown of the branch of AS SEB bank. It is good that the management of Latvijas Pasts understands that the postal company has to change with the times, and I hope that this cooperation will continue to be more productive and the forms of our collaboration will evolve.”

Local governments of several municipalities are also among the institutions that have opened a payment account with Latvijas Pasts and use this service in an efficient way. Moreover, Latvijas Pasts has spoken to the local governments of other municipalities about cooperation possibilities related to rendering convenient financial services to people in places where other payment infrastructures are not available.

Along with the establishment of the additional counter for serving the customers, Latvijas Pasts plans to equip Valka post office No. 1 with a waiting line management system to ensure a smoother flow of visitors. Besides, starting from February the post office offers the convenience of a dedicated fast pick-up counter where the customers can quickly receive their mail, which does not have to be paid for, during the periods of peak customer influx on weekday afternoons.
