Latvijas Pasts holds special cancellation event and releases envelope Bobsleigh

On March 20, 2015, Latvijas Pasts will hold a special cancellation event dedicated to the release of the envelope Bobsleigh. The special cancellation will take place in the post office Sakta, 32 Brīvības Boulevard, Riga, from 7:30 AM to 7 PM.

The print run of the envelope Bobsleigh is 1,000, and it has been designed by the artist Ģirts Grīva. The envelope depicts a bobsleigh, while the special cancellation features a stylized image of the sleigh.

Bobsleigh, one of the most popular winter sports, began to evolve in Latvia in 1980. The original bobsleighs manufactured at one time at the factory VEF made it possible to secure the first success. In 1984, Jānis Ķipurs and Aivars Šnepsts became European champions, while Zintis Ekmanis earned a bronze medal in the Olympic Games in Sarajevo, but in 1985 he became the European champion. From year to year, Latvian athletes gain success and prestigious awards in this sport. This year, the quartet led by Oskars Melbārdis with pushers Daumants Dreiškens, Arvis Vilkaste and Jānis Strenga claimed bronze in the World Championship.
The new envelope Bobsleigh and the special cancellation can be viewed here.

The next new philatelic release is scheduled for April 10.
