Latvijas Pasts urges municipalities to remove obstacles for mail deliveries

SJSC Latvijas Pasts, as the largest provider of postal services in Latvia, urges municipalities to pay attention to the possibilities of mail deliveries throughout the country. Latvijas Pasts provides its services with responsibility to customers and also calls upon municipalities to be more responsible to their citizens as well as to the environment.

It can often be a case that the owners of houses and buildings have not installed and set up appropriate mailboxes, but despite this Latvijas Pasts has one of the highest quality indicators in terms of mail delivery rates in Europe. However, the quality of services is often influenced by a disorganized environment and security conditions. Timely delivery of mail depends not only on the availability of a mailbox, but also an adequate access to this mailbox.

There have been a number of serious cases – five in total – recorded this summer when Latvijas Pasts mail carriers suffered from dog bites. In one of the incidents, a female carrier was bitten in both legs by a dog when she was delivering mail by bicycle. After the accident, the mail carrier had to stay in hospital for a long time to treat her injuries and she currently continues her treatment course at home. This is just one example out of many accidents when postal carriers have to face similar situations in their job, which makes mail delivery very complicated.

Latvijas Pasts urges animal owners to be more careful and responsible, because the majority of accidents associated with domestic animals are the fault of their owners who leave the animals unattended.

Latvijas Pasts addresses its request to Latvian municipalities to pay more attention to both domestic and stray animals so that they do not pose a threat to people and animals themselves.
Latvijas Pasts asks the municipalities to inform their residents about the importance of the orderly and safe environment and to take care of its monitoring in order to avoid complications for the people and not to hinder the high quality and safety of postal services provided by Latvijas Pasts across the country.
