Latvijas Pasts makes addition to series Lighthouses of Latvia – Salacgrīva Lighthouse

First-day cancellation of the new stamp Lighthouses of Latvia – Salacgrīva Lighthouse will take place in the Post Center Sakta, 32 Brīvības Boulevard, Riga, on August 21, 2015, from 7:30 AM to 7 PM.

Latvijas Pasts has released a new stamp dedicated to Salacgrīva Lighthouse in the series Lighthouses of Latvia. This is the tenth stamp in the series Lighthouses of Latvia, while the previous one, Ainaži Lighthouse, was issued in 2014. The denomination of the stamp Salacgrīva Lighthouse is € 0.78 and its print run is 100,000 copies. The stamp and the cover have been designed by Arta Ozola Jaunarāja. The print run of the special cover is 1,500. The stamps have been printed at Baltic Banknote printing house in Latvia

Salacgrīva Lighthouse is located on the right bank of the Salaca River. It was built in 1925 as a quadrangle white tower with a red lantern. The height of the light was 8.4 meters, while the height of the lighthouse above water was 12.1 meters. The lighthouse was built because the coast between Salacgrīva and Ainaži was the most dangerous area for navigation across the entire coast of the Gulf of Riga due to a lot of ground.
Salacgrīva Lighthouse has been out of operation for several years and it has been moved from the port area to the promenade on the bank of the Salaca River.

The new stamps Lighthouses of Latvia – Salacgrīva Lighthouse can be viewed here.

The first-day cover and cancellation are available for viewing here.

The next new philatelic release is scheduled for September 11.
