JSC Latvijas Pasts in cooperation with the Universal Postal Union has entered into the agreement on joining the additional tracking system so that its customers will have access to information on mail tracking from January 1, 2016.
In October 2015, the USPS, which is the designated postal operator in the United States, discontinued the exchange of data on shipment tracking with many postal operators, including JSC Latvijas Pasts. During the negotiation process, the USPS announced that it will make mail status data publicly available against a certain fee. Other postal operators have also joined the offer of the USPS. Joining this system will impose additional costs on all postal operators.
The additional charge for shipment tracking in the amount of €0.91 (including VAT) comes into force on January 1, 2016. It will be applied to each cross-border outbound recorded (registered or insured) mail item (postcard, letter, printed material or small packet) addressed to the following countries:

The fee for the shipment tracking will be charged in addition to the dispatch fee when sending mail.
The publication of shipment data is voluntary action by the postal operator and no law declares it to be mandatory.
