Latvijas Pasts in collaboration with Latvijas Avīze to honor best postal carriers and post office operators across Latvia

The contest of letters My Postal Carrier: The Right Person in the Right Place (Mans pastnieks – Īstais cilvēks, īstajā vietā) organized by Latvijas Pasts and Latvijas Avīze has concluded with reviewing the letters and questionnaires sent in by the customers and determining the best postal carriers and post office operators from each region of Latvia in 2015 as well as the most approachable postal carrier or post office operator.

A total of over 100 postal carriers and post office operators of Latvijas Pasts were proposed for the awards. The customers’ letters speak highly of not only the professional skills of the company’s employees, but also their personal qualities.

The winning postal carrier of Riga Region is Laimdota Puriņa from Mālpils post office. The customers who sent in the questionnaires describe her as an excellent, accurate and helpful postal carrier who is always welcome in any home.

Most questionnaires this year were received from Zemgale Region where the absolute winner is the head of Krape post office (Ogres district) and post office operator Inita Makarova. In the words of the customers, “Inita always welcomes customers with a smile. She is a people’s person and professional in doing her work”. The winner of Kurzeme Region is the postal carrier Reinis Nolendorfs from Sabile post office who is described by the customers as follows: “The man in the right place: he performs his duties very conscientiously and does not leave anyone without attention.”

People from Vidzeme Region cast most votes for the head of Variņu post office (Smiltenes district) and post office operator Rasma Beitika who, in the customers’ opinion, is friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. The customers from Latgale Region wrote about and voted for the postal carrier Iveta Loča from Rugāji post office who was described as a person with a very high sense of duty as well as a person you can rely on.

Based on the letters and questionnaires sent in by the customers, the title of the most approachable postal carrier or post office operator has been awarded to the postal carrier Biruta Jaundzema from Liepna post office (Alūksne municipality). The customers, including Inese Paia, talk about her with a great deal of praise:

“She is always lovable and positive and generates new creative ideas. Once she admitted during a conversation that newspaper and magazine deliveries to customers allow her to enter the stream of life and feel what is happening in the world. When receiving his pension, a senior customer once said that she has only one drawback – you do not want her to leave! She carries those who have an inquiring mind with herself in her stream of life as she promotes and recommends print media. Biruta makes it possible to read the latest local newspapers, write a letter and receive an invitation to collect the parcel from the post office. She bestows attention, support, positive emotions and enlightenment. Her smile deserves special thanks! Her life wisdom, sincerity, knowledgeability and serenity at the same time bring a special aura into the room.”

Each region’s postal carriers and post office operators with the highest assessment rates given by the customers will receive valuable prizes from Latvijas Pasts. The award event with the attendance of the award winning employees as well as representatives of the Board of Latvijas Pasts and Latvijas Avīze is scheduled for April.

In their letters, the customers of Latvijas Pasts express their high appreciation of the services provided by the postal carriers and post office operators, highlighting the professional skills of the employees, such as helpfulness, accuracy and integrity. Besides, the letters and questionnaires spotlight a quality of the employees which is directly related to their professional roles and responsibilities, and that is humanity. As commonly is the case with rural areas, a postal carrier delivers not only print media and mail to his or her customers, but also goods from a local store or pharmacy, as well as gives a helping hand and provides advice in various everyday circumstances.

The prizes from the Latvijas Avīze newspaper office, which are a gift certificate valued at EUR 50 for subscription to print media and a set of the stamps released by Latvijas Pasts in 2015, will be given to Judīte Hmeļnicka from Krape, who has become the lucky winner as a result of the draw among all those who sent in the questionnaires. The prizes have also been awarded to the authors of the most fascinating letters sent in for the contest: Eugenija Audare from Galēni, Ilma Gūža from Liepāja, Lilija Akere from Trikāta, Edīte Melne from Pociems and Inese Paia from Liepna. Extracts from their letters will be published in the newspaper Latvijas Avīze.
