Free breast health information leaflet available at Latvijas Pasts offices

To provide women with information on breast cancer, its diagnosis, treatment and prevention, a free breast health information leaflet is available to all women throughout Latvia at 510 Latvijas Pasts offices starting from today until the end of May.

It is no secret that breast cancer is increasingly diagnosed in women around 30 years of age. To protect yourself from getting breast cancer, regular self-examination of the breasts is crucial, as this is a way for a woman to check her breasts, be sure about her health and seek medical advice in a timely manner, if necessary.

The information leaflets will help women find answers to the most important questions about how to protect themselves from developing breast cancer as well as about its diagnosis and treatment options.

For several years, Latvijas Pasts as a socially responsible company has been supporting the breast health information campaign Pārbaudi krūtis, lai dzīvotu! (Check your breasts to live!), which aims at increasing public awareness of breast cancer, because it is the most common oncological disease among women in Latvia; moreover, patients become younger and younger every year.

The company annually provides opportunities for women throughout Latvia to receive information materials, and on May 28, which is Breast Health Day, it offers a chance to anyone interested to send a postcard to a significant woman in their life via a mobile postal station, encouraging women to take care of their health.

As already announced, the Breast Self-Examination Point was opened in Latvia for the first time last month, giving women the opportunity to check their breast health free of charge and learn how to do breast self-examination. Until now, 449 women had their breasts checked, and 101 of them require further tests.

This is the sixth year in a row that Latvia Basketball Association and VITA, Association for Support of Breast Cancer Patients, have organized the campaign Check your breasts to live!
