Nearby Riga post office No. 1 to take over service of customers of Riga post office No. 12 from July 1, 2016

As a result of the assessment of the trends in using the postal services in specific areas of Riga, the nearby Riga post office No. 1 will start servicing the customers of Riga post office No. 12 from July 1, 2016. The customers from this area can get access to postal services also in several other post offices nearby.

Riga post office No. 12 is located at 152 Brīvības Street, a place with heavy traffic where it is virtually impossible to park a car in order to easily pick up or dispatch mail. The unfavorable location of the post office has caused the number of customers to decline over the years, which has resulted in a decreased demand for services and lower turnover, incurring an average monthly loss of more than EUR 2,000 on Latvijas Pasts in 2016. Therefore, based on the assessment of the patterns of using the postal services in this area, the nearby Riga post office No. 1 at 4 Tallinas Street will take over the functions of Riga post office No. 12 from July 1, 2016. All the employees of Riga post office No. 12 will continue to work in various post offices in Riga.

Mail addressed to the customers in the area serviced by Riga post office No. 12 can be received in the future in Riga post office No. 1, but any other postal services are available not only in this post office, but also in other post offices in the neighborhood: Riga post office No. 9 at 43 Pērnavas Street, Riga post office No. 13 at 145 Krišjāņa Valdemāra Street bldg. 1 and Riga post office No. 17 at the shopping mall Domina Shopping, 3 Ieriķu Street. In addition, customers may conveniently collect their mail from Statoil fuel station at 176a Brīvības Street, which is not far away from the previous post office No. 12. Additional information about the possibilities of collecting mail from Statoil fuel stations is available here.

The residents of Riga may also receive the necessary postal services directly from a postal worker at their place of residence if it is difficult for them to get to the post office. The postal worker can provide the following services at the customer’s place of residence:  receipt of money transfers and pensions, payment of utility and other bills, purchase of stamps and envelopes, dispatch of postcards and letters, press subscriptions, applying for home delivery of mail, etc.

The number and locations of the post offices in Riga are determined by the Decision of the Public Utilities Commission’s Council on the Universal Postal Service Obligations, which stipulates that Latvijas Pasts must provide at least 30 permanent post offices in Riga. Latvijas Pasts complies with these conditions by providing postal services in 42 post offices.

Precise information on the receipt of postal services in the area serviced by Riga post office No. 12 after July 1 will be placed in the mailbox of each customer residing in this area starting from June 13.
