The winning stamp of the stamp design competition organized by Latvijas Pasts that is dedicated to the 125th anniversary of Gustavs Ērenpreiss, the legendary Latvian bicycle creator, will be officially presented during Mazsalaca Town Festival on Saturday, 23 July 2016. The first day cancellation of the stamp will take place in the Culture Centre of Mazsalaca Municipality at 1 Rūjienas Street from 9 AM to 5 PM, and the presentation event with the participation of the designer of the stamp Toms Rutkovskis and the representatives of the management of Latvijas Pasts, Ērenpreiss and Mazsalaca Municipality Council will be held at 11 AM.

The new stamp has been released with a substantial print run of 500,000 copies, and its face value is €0.50, which corresponds to the cost of mailing a regular letter within Latvia. The release of the stamp is accompanied by the issue of a special cover with a print run of 1,500 copies.

The newly released stamp is the winning entry of the stamp design competition held by Latvijas Pasts together with Ērenpreiss: it has received 1,952 votes in the voting via social networks. The fifth Latvijas Pasts stamp design competition ran in May and June 2016. A total of 210 design ideas were submitted, of which the competent jury composed of experts in graphic design, philately and marketing shortlisted 30 entries for the final vote. 9,097 votes have been cast through social networks for the stamps shortlisted for the finals, and this is considerably – by 2,712 votes – more than in the previous contest.

In addition to the chance to see the stamp with his design travel to countries far and near, the winner of the competition T.Rutkovskis will receive a special prize during the stamp presentation in Mazsalaca – a personalized Ērenpreiss bicycle.

G.Ērenpreiss, creator of the legendary Latvian bicycle brand, was born in Mazsalaca on 5 August 1891. Ērenpreiss brand dates back to 1927 when G.Ērenpreiss Bicycle Factory was opened and the G.Ērenpreis Original bicycle became available on the market. The new bicycle rapidly gained popularity, and in 1931 G.Ērenpreiss launched the construction of the bicycle plant, which was recognized as the largest and most modern bicycle production facility in the Baltic States in 1940.
