Every visitor to post centre Sakta may wind their greetings into ball of good wishes or write postcard to Latvian Olympians

Any visitor to Latvijas Pasts who stops by the post centre Sakta until 27 July 2016 may wind their greetings into a ball of good wishes or write a special postcard to the Latvian Olympians before the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The Latvian Olympic Committee (LOC) will deliver the encouraging messages of Latvian residents to the national Olympic team before the Olympic Games.

The ball of good wishes was launched last week during the music festival Positivus in Salacgriva, and this week the winding of greetings continues in the post centre Sakta. The ball of wishes is made of coloured ribbons, on which anyone can write their own greeting and roll it into a ball.

A number of balls of wishes are travelling across different Latvian companies and other interested persons, and each of them indicates the next recipient of the ball. The item is then delivered to that recipient by Eksprespasts of Latvijas Pasts. The result of the winding of greetings will be one big ball of good wishes to the national Olympic team.

The dedicated website http://sveicieniuzrio.lv/ showing the journey of the ball of good wishes has also been set up. It features the greetings received and will also provide for an opportunity to see an interactive map tracing the route of the ball as well as to view the wishes and pictures of the greetings writing process in various places.

A total of 33 athletes representing 13 sports have qualified for the Latvian Olympic team to compete in Rio de Janeiro: athletics, BMX and road cycling, freestyle wrestling, canoeing and kayaking, judo, tennis, beach volleyball, weightlifting, swimming, sailing and shooting. The list of the Latvian Olympians can be viewed here.

The Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympics will be the thirty-first Summer Olympic Games and will take place from 5 August to 21 August. Around 12,500 athletes from 205 countries are expected to take part in this event.
