Specially warmed up and scented postcards and gifts can be sent from the Greeting House in the Dome Square

The traditional Greeting House is opening its doors at the Christmas market in the Dome Square on Saturday, the 26th of November 2016, which is the eve of the First Advent. This year it will be distinguished by its visual appearance and the opportunity for customers to send specially scented and warmed up postcards. The Greeting House will also offer the possibility to send letters, parcels and small packets – this service will be especially convenient for the employees of the neighbouring offices and residents of the Old Town during the pre-holiday period. Since December is the busiest month for post offices throughout the world, it is essential not to put off the sending of gifts and greetings to the last minute.

The Greeting House in the Dome Square will be open until the 31st of December and it will work from 10 AM to 8 PM every day and from 10 AM to 2 PM on the last day of the year. The items sent from the Greeting House can be stamped with a special Christmas cancellation, and those customers who buy the most recent Latvijas Pasts stamps in the series Christmas will have the opportunity to receive a special holiday postcard free of charge. The possibility to warm up any holiday postcard and put a special a Christmas scent on it, which is offered in the Greeting House, looks particularly attractive.

As December marks the start of the period when the postal sector companies have a very intense workload in the run-up to the year-end holidays due to a manifold increase in the volume of items to be handled, it is important to remember to send the season’s greetings in a timely manner. The use of the services available in the Greeting House will be especially convenient for the Old Town residents and employees of the neighbouring offices who will have the opportunity to send holiday greetings in the form of letters and postcards as well as gift packages in good time.

This also applies to letters to Father Christmas, and in order for the item to reach the addressee successfully, it is essential to make sure that the address is specified correctly and that the stamps affixed are sufficient to cover the cost of the particular letter.

All letters addressed to Father Christmas will be delivered by Latvijas Pasts to the letter-box of Father Christmas’ office in Latvia. If the recipient indicated on the letter is Santa Claus or Grandfather Frost, the item will go to Finland or Russia, respectively. In order for the letter to reach the desired letter-box, the correct address must be indicated and stamps with a suitable face value must be affixed.

A regular Class A letter to Father Christmas in Latvia can be sent using a stamp with a face value of € 0.57, to Santa Claus in Finland – with a face value of € 0.78 and to Grandfather Frost in Russia – with a face value of € 0.85.
