December is traditionally the busiest time of the year for postal establishments throughout the world; therefore, in order to provide more efficient services to customers, Latvijas Pasts has brought on additional staff for faster delivery of items in 49 biggest and most frequently visited post offices throughout the country since the 1st of December. In addition, the opening hours in December have been extended in 32 post offices.
Additional staff resources have been ensured in 23 post offices in Riga and Pierīga (Greater Riga area) and 26 post offices in the largest Latvian cities since December to focus specifically on the delivery of items as quickly and efficiently as possible. These employees will deliver to customers registered letters, small packets and parcels not requiring the payment of the customs duty or cash-on-delivery charges.
The so-called fast pick-up counters have been operating in 25 post offices in Riga, Pierīga, Valmiera and Daugavpils since November. These counters are aimed specifically at the delivery of items, but, as the year-end holiday period is approaching, the additionally hired employees will also be primarily involved in delivering items during the periods of peak customer influx, while the rest of the time they will help with the provision of other postal services.

In order to improve the customers’ convenience, the busiest post offices in Riga, Riga region and Latgale have their opening hours extended by a few hours mainly on Saturdays until the 31st of December. The Saturday opening hours in December are extended by three hours in 23 post offices in Riga and surroundings, while three of the post offices, No. 21, No. 82 and No. 84, will work one hour longer also every workday. The Saturday opening hours of eight post offices in Latgale are extended by two hours.
