Latvijas Pasts ensures the delivery of press obtained by subscription until 8 AM in yet more areas in 2017

In addition to the 47 areas where Latvijas Pasts ensures earlier delivery of press obtained by subscription as of the 1st of January 2017, in the first months of this year the company created a possibility for delivering newspapers as early as until 8 AM in yet more populated areas. In turn, giving further consideration to the opportunities for improving the delivery time, earlier delivery options of print media in individual areas are being checked in test mode.

When analysing the delivery times, Latvijas Pasts revised the delivery options of print press in several dozens of territorial units in 2016, allocating its own resources to ensure earlier delivery times in a total of 47 cities and populated areas as of the 1st of January 2017, thereby improving the access of Latvian population to information.

Since January Latvijas Pasts has been testing earlier delivery options in yet more areas, and now newspapers are delivered to subscribers in most of Jelgava and Mārupe as early as until 8 AM. Continuing the analysis of the earlier delivery options, earlier delivery will also be soon launched in test mode in Ikšķile, and this process will be continued elsewhere in Latvia depending on the financial and economic capabilities of Latvijas Pasts.

“It is an ongoing process of revising the existing delivery times of press obtained by subscription and the opportunities for improving them in various areas. At the moment we are moving step by step, analysing the necessary resources for earlier delivery of newspapers in different populated areas,” Mārcis Vilcāns, Chairman of the Board of Latvijas Pasts, points out.

Delivery times were been reviewed at Latvijas Pasts for several years, so extensive research regarding the technical, financial and human resource capabilities of Latvijas Pasts to improve the press delivery times was carried out in 2016. In order for delivery to happen at an earlier time, it is important to take into account a number of factors related to the logistics system of Latvijas Pasts: starting from the time required for printing specific periodicals and their delivery to Latvijas Pasts, the time needed for sorting and the transportation schedules of the offices of exchange across the country, and ending with the revision of postmen’s routes in each individual area.

By optimising a number of factors, Latvijas Pasts has managed to shorten the press delivery time by one to five hours without significant additional investment in almost 50 areas as of January 2017. To ensure a more substantial acceleration of delivery, significant financial investment is required.

Latvijas Pasts provides press delivery at unified tariffs in accordance with the universal postal obligations, which are set forth in the Postal Law, throughout the entire territory of Latvia.
