Latvijas Pasts holds a regular meeting of Latvian participants of the postcard sending project Postcrossing on the 1st of June

Latvijas Pasts is holding the 11th regular meeting of Latvian participants of the international postcard sending project Postcrossing, planning to provide insight into the observations of a professional graphologist about people’s handwriting and the experience of the winner of Latvijas Pasts stamp design contest 2017 in the postcrossers movement. During the meeting the attendees will have a chance to send postcards to Postcrossing members outside Latvia free of charge. The meeting will take place in the house of books and cultural goods NicePlace Mansards at 21a K.Barona Street (courtyard), Riga at 4 PM on the 1st of June 2017.

Latvijas Pasts traditionally brings together participants of the Postcrossing movement in order to promote the sending of postcards and present the latest developments in the activities of Latvijas Pasts. Sending postcards using the website www.postcrossing.com as a basis is becoming increasingly popular around the world and also in Latvia from year to year, allowing people to meet previously unknown pen pals.

During the regular meeting of postcrossers the graphologist Anita Millere will tell the attendees about her long-standing experience analysing the connection between a person’s handwriting and his or her character. Moreover, the participants will have a special opportunity to learn about what his or her handwriting says about the personality of each of them. In turn, Ervīns Elliņš, the winner of the new stamp design contest My Family – Superteam held by Latvijas Pasts, will talk about his participation in the contest and also the Postcrossing movement, for which Ervīns makes postcards of his own individual design.

The event will be held in an informal setting and will call on the postcrossers to share their experiences of sending the postcards. The attending postcrossers will be provided with free postcards and stamps, enabling them to send their message to Postcrossing participants in other countries.

The international Postcrossing movement involves almost 680,000 people from more than 200 countries of the world, and its participants have exchanged more than 41 million postcards. Residents of Latvia are also actively engaged in this movement, and their number today is over 3,050 people. Latvian postcrossers have sent approximately 238,700 postcards. This means that Latvia is ranked 27th in the world in terms of the number of cards sent within the project.

Latvijas Pasts encourages everyone to participate in the international postcard sending project Postcrossing in order to meet previously unknown pen pals. The company has received more than 600 unique postcards during the six years of participation in this project.

A new participant can send his or her first postcard by getting registered on the website www.postcrossing.com and receiving a postal address. When sending the card, the sender can be sure that he or she will get at least one postcard in return from a postcrosser who, perhaps, lives halfway around the world. When the postcard has been received, it should be registered on www.postcrossing.com, and the search for the next pen pal can begin.

The collection of Latvijas Pasts postcards within the Postcrossing project can be viewed here.
