In Jelgava, Latvijas Pasts will open a parents-friendly post office for new parents - the first such office outside the capital

By implementing yet another step towards the creation of a more favourable environment in the post offices for customers, Latvijas Pasts has planned to open the first new-parents-friendly post office outside the capital on Friday, August 25, 2017 at 11:30 in postal office Jelgava at Katolu iela 2b. It will be attended by the Minister of Transport Uldis Augulis, Manager of the parents’ organisation Mammamuntetiem.lv Inga Akmentina-Smildzina (Inga Akmentiņa-Smildziņa) the Chairman of the Board of Latvijas Pasts Marcis Vilcans (Mārcis Vilcāns), and the Chairman of Jelgava City Council Andris Ravins (Andris Rāviņš). Beside the priority service (through customer flow control system) aimed at new parents, the postal centre Jelgava also features a specially designed children’s entertainment corner.

The first two post offices of the new-parents-friendly concept have already been opened this year in Riga - in shopping centres Mols and Origo, but after assessing the customer flow in the central regional post offices, the first such post office outside the capital is being developed in Jelgava. The idea of new-parents-friendly post office has come about in cooperation with the parents’ organization Mammamuntetiem.lv, based on the organization’s recommendations on how to organize the post office work in the way that is more favourable to new parents.

The new-parents-friendly post office features a number of elements. First, there is a special service button For new parents in the multi-functional customer flow control system, which provides for the priority service for expecting mothers and new parents with children up to the age of seven. New parents can also apply to receive priority services remotely via the mobile app of Latvijas Pasts in their smartphone in all the post offices where customer flow control system has been installed.

Second, there is a specially created children’s corner, where the fittings are made of Latvian wood and where eco-friendly paints have been used - it has a special design that informs about the work of Latvijas Pasts in an entertaining way: it is possible to “take a ride” in a miniature company’s car across the outline of Latvia, showing the company’s daily mail exchange routes throughout the country, as well as to fill in several different types of postcards.

The new-parents-friendly post office is also marked with a special pictogram, which shows that new parents are particularly welcome in this post office.

The concept of the new-parents-friendly post office is also planned to be gradually implemented in other most frequently visited post offices in all regions of Latvia.
