Additional staff will work in 39 post offices of Latvijas Pasts to provide faster services to customers in November; opening hours extended in 20 post offices

The end of the year is traditionally the busiest time for postal establishments throughout the world, because the volume of postal items increases several times. As the period of a heavy workload is approaching, in November Latvijas Pasts expands the number of the post offices where additional staff has been brought on for delivery of items and the so-called fast pick-up counters have been set up. Starting from the 1st of November they will operate in the biggest and most frequently visited post offices in Riga and Zemgale, and from the 15th of November they will be available in nine more post offices in Kurzeme, Latgale and Vidzeme. Furthermore, Saturday opening hours of 20 post offices will be extended.

Starting from the 1st of November fast pick-up counters operate in 30 post offices in Riga, Pierīga (Greater Riga area), Bauska, Dobele, Jelgava, Jēkabpils and Ogre, and from the 15th of November they will also open in Alūksne, Cēsis, Daugavpils, Gulbene, Liepāja, Madona, Rēzekne and Valmiera, thus ensuring faster delivery of items in a total of 39 post offices. Currently, it is planned that fast pick-up counters will operate until the end of the year, but the period of their operation will be extended if necessary.

Using the fast pick-up counters, where no other services are available during the hours with the biggest influx of customers every workday, it is possible to receive registered letters, small packets and parcels not requiring the payment of the customs duty or cash-on-delivery charges.

A detailed list of the post offices with fast pick-up counters for the delivery of items and the opening hours of those counters is available here.

In order to further improve the customers’ convenience when receiving postal services, there will be changes in the opening hours in nine post offices in Zemgale starting from the 1st of November until the end of the year and in eight post offices in Latgale from the 15th of November, extending their Saturday working time by a few hours. A detailed list of the post offices with the extended opening hours can be viewed here

Fast pick-up counters have been operating in 18 busiest post offices in Riga, Pierīga, Jelgava and Jēkabpils already since October. Analysing the current situation regarding the acceptance and delivery of items, the need for additional changes aimed at improving the customer service in the post offices also in December will be assessed.
