Number of press subscriptions for 2018 grows by 14,000 compared to the previous year

Upon completion of the three-month subscription campaign, a total of 412,684 print media subscriptions have been processed through Latvijas Pasts, and this is by almost 14,000 subscriptions more than a year ago. Subscriptions for a period of 10 to 12 months have the biggest share among all subscriptions. The majority of the total number of the subscriptions is for magazines.

The traditional subscription campaign of Latvijas Pasts was held from October to December 2017, and during all the three months an increase in the number of subscriptions was observed, resulting in a total growth of 3.5% compared to the same period a year ago.

Most press subscriptions are for a period of 10 to 12 months, accounting for more than 65% of the total number of subscriptions. In comparison to the results of the subscription campaign a year ago, the number of subscriptions chosen for a longer period has increased by 6.7%.

More than one fourth of press subscriptions have been made through the subscription website https://abone.pasts.lv, and the majority – 76.8% – of print media subscribed to through this website is exactly for the longest period of 10 to 12 months.

Magazines account for 62.8% of the total amount of subscriptions made.

Assessing the results of the latest subscription campaign, Mārcis Vilcāns, Chairman of the Board of Latvijas Pasts, points out: “The results of the subscription campaign allow us to conclude that reading print media, despite the development of the Internet, is an important component of the Latvian society’s habits. The fact that subscriptions through the Internet are growing also demonstrates the interest of the young and socially active audience in reading the printed press. Another positive trend is that subscriptions are made for a longer period of time, as it somewhat indicates the strengthening of the subscribers’ financial stability.”

Although the subscription campaign is over, there is still the opportunity to subscribe to your favourite periodicals for 2018 at any time after the subscription campaign has completed: the newspapers and magazines issued in Latvia during the relevant subscription period will be delivered in two business days if the publisher has provided for this possibility; other periodicals will be delivered from the beginning of each full month, and the time of receiving international print media will depend on the schedule set by the supplier and the specific subscription price period.
