Latvijas Pasts receives award for effective cooperation from Cainiao, a company of the Chinese Alibaba Group

Latvijas Pasts has received the Award for Consentaneous Team Work & Effective Supporting from Cainiao, a company of Alibaba Group and cooperation partner as part of the project involving transit items from Asia to third countries. The award was presented in the Chinese city of Hangzhou to Mārcis Vilcāns, Chairman of the Board of Latvijas Pasts, and Andris Eglājs, Deputy Director of International Affairs of Latvijas Pasts. Last year Latvijas Pasts became involved in the transit project: processing of Asian e-commerce items and delivering them further to thirds countries.

In 2017 Latvijas Pasts became involved in transit deliveries of e-commerce items from Asia to third countries, mainly delivering items from China’s trading platform Alibaba. “It is a great pleasure to receive such a significant assessment only half a year after the start of transit item deliveries. Our cooperation partners in China are monitoring very thoroughly all links in the transit route and measure the overall speed and quality, while also analysing the efficiency of each link. Latvijas Pasts has achieved this efficiency, having demonstrated greatly appreciated speed in unloading, processing and forwarding of cargo for further deliveries,” Mārcis Vilcāns, Chairman of the Board of Latvijas Pasts, points out.

Uldis Augulis, Minister for Transport, emphasises the essential impact of the transit item project implemented by Latvijas Pasts not only on the postal sector, but also on Latvia as a transit service provider in general, including in the field of aviation. “Latvijas Pasts has started rendering the transit services with unprecedented dynamics, while also ensuring a significant increase in the provision of aviation services at the Riga International Airport over the six-month period and thus strengthening the overall transit service niche of Latvia. At the same time, the positive assessment confirms Latvia’s competitiveness and professional work of the postal sector.”

In the second half of 2017 Latvijas Pasts serviced around 20 cargoes from aircraft carrying transit items as part of the project, of which the largest cargoes were carried by Boeing 747. A similar Alibaba Group cooperation partnership operates in other selected countries too.

In 2017 Latvijas Pasts processed a total of several tens of millions of items of different types, such as small packets, parcels, letters, postcards, express mail items, items in wrapper, promotional materials and press obtained by subscription.
