Latvijas Pasts is digitising the registration of the receipt of postal items: more than 1,300 postmen are now equipped with mobile devices

In 2018 more than 1,300 Latvijas Pasts postmen have been equipped with mobile smart devices that allow them to digitally register both the fact of the receipt of the postal item and the customer’s signature and also record the reason for the delay of delivery in situations when the recipient of the registered item is not present at the specified address. By the end of May 2018 more than 1.2 million customer signatures for the receipt of items were recorded in the postmen’s mobile devices.

To improve the functionality of the provision of postal services, in 2018 Latvijas Pasts is implementing the transfer of the registration of the delivery of postal items into the digital environment: more than 1,300 postmen have received mobile smart devices to implement this goal. The devices are used to record the fact of the delivery of a registered item and the customer’s signature and the reason why the item has not been delivered in cases when the customer is not present at the indicated address, as well as ensure the immediate exchange of delivery information with the single system of item registration of Latvijas Pasts. The information on the delivery of the item is recorded in real time. By the end of May the postmen have delivered items to customers and recorded this fact in the mobile devices more than 1.2 million times.

“Along with the recording of registered items in the postmen’s mobile devices, we have implemented yet another stage towards modernisation and digitisation of Latvijas Pasts. This was not easy in many places because we had to change the mind-set from the decades-long traditions over to the 21st century technologies. However, it was not so complicated, as many employees were happy to accept the positive changes and also helped to train those who initially perceived this process as somewhat difficult,” Mārcis Vilcāns, Chairman of the Board of Latvijas Pasts, points out.

By providing the postmen with mobile devices, the amount of paper forms used by Latvijas Pasts is significantly reduced, thus increasing the company’s responsibility towards the environment; the control of item delivery is improved; human resources that no longer need to enter the item delivery data into the single system are released; postmen become more mobile and easy to communicate with both by customers and Latvijas Pasts

A number of modernisation projects are being implemented in 2018, which include replacing paper invitations with mobile text messages in cases when customers have indicated such information, providing the opportunity to apply for postal services in post offices remotely via the Latvijas Pasts mobile app and improving the functionality of using the subscription system www.abone.pasts.lv
