Latvijas Pasts upgrades its car fleet for more efficient delivery of items

Continuing to upgrade its car fleet to ensure more efficient delivery of the universal postal service and express mail items, Latvijas Pasts has started using 64 new cargo vans this year. By the end of the year it is planned to replace another 41 outmoded vans with new models. The new vans are more powerful yet more economical and environmentally-friendly, and their manoeuvrability and performance are more effective, thus improving both the speed of deliveries and the working conditions of the drivers.

The upgrading of Latvijas Pasts fleet by acquiring more economical, more environmentally-friendly and more comfortable vehicles for employees under an operating lease will help to reduce fuel and car fleet maintenance costs as well as improve the speed of item delivery and the working conditions of the car drivers. From all postal businesses operating in the country, Latvijas Pasts is the only one that ensures the exchange of post in the entire national territory every weekday. Therefore, the company started to implement the first stage of the replacement of the vans in May 2017, and it is planned to be gradually completed by the end of this year, overall ensuring the upgrading of the whole fleet of the vans.

Mārcis Vilcāns, Chairman of the Board of Latvijas Pasts, points out: “Along with the rapid development of e-commerce items, the speed of their delivery is playing an increasingly important role. The delivery time of items continues to decrease worldwide, so keeping up with market development is essential to ensure the proper speed of the company’s services, which is facilitated both by improvement of the working conditions of the drivers and a more modern car fleet.”

The new vans have been chosen via a public procurement procedure, which provides for a four-year rental using an operating lease service. The rental costs for the entire term amount to 1.5 million euro. The new vans will replace the vehicles which have been used for the delivery of items since 2007.

For two years Latvijas Pasts has been actively implementing the projects aimed at improving the service quality, efficiency of deliveries, customer service and employee motivation, while also upgrading the equipment and the infrastructure needed for work.

The total fleet of Latvijas Pasts currently consists of 260 vehicles.
