Within a month and a half nearly 55,000 customers have applied for e-invitations to receive registered items

54,900 customers have already applied for the electronic invitation service in the form of mobile text messages to receive registered – signed for and/or insured items within a month and a half since the introduction of this service. The number of the text messages sent regarding incoming registered items has amounted to 64,200 during this period. Using the new service, customers – both private individuals and legal entities – can receive electronic invitations in the form of mobile text messages regarding the registered postal items received for them at the post office, provided that the correct mobile phone number of the addressee is indicated on the item.

Ensuring more accessible postal services and modern opportunities for receipt of items, in July Latvijas Pasts started offering the electronic invitation service in the form of mobile text messages also to receive registered – signed for and/or insured items. Since, according to the regulatory framework in regard to registered items, the addressee must give his or her consent to electronic communications, the customer has to apply for this service, indicating his or her mobile phone number, which is accurate and functioning.

The majority of registered items are small packets, parcels and express mail items from online stores, because when shopping in such stores, one of the fields of the order to be filled in traditionally is the mobile phone number, which the sender usually indicates on the item.

E-invitations, which Latvijas Pasts now sends to customers regarding the receipt of registered and ordinary items, is one of the projects implemented by Latvijas Pasts for switching to the provision of services in the digital environment, providing modern customer care and reducing resource consumption. “We encourage our customers to use the opportunity to quickly and efficiently obtain information about the items received at Latvijas Pasts. In regard to registered items, only two simple steps are required: applying for this service quickly and easily in the way most convenient for you and making sure that the accurate mobile phone number of the recipient is indicated on the item,” Mārcis Vilcāns, Chairman of the Board of Latvijas Pasts, says.

In order to receive invitations for registered items in the form of mobile text messages, customers may apply for this service free of charge in a way most convenient for them: by marking their consent for further receipt of electronic invitations on the information notice when receiving the item at the post office; by signing the application for the receipt of electronic invitations at the post office or by sending the application signed with the secure electronic signature (the application form is available on the website of Latvijas Pasts www.pasts.lv) to the Latvijas Pasts customer service e-mail address info@pasts.lv.

If the addressee has not collected the registered item from the post office within seven days from sending the mobile notice, the repeated invitation in paper format will be delivered to the addressee’s letter-box.

Latvijas Pasts started developing mobile invitations for registered items immediately after the adoption of corresponding changes in the regulatory framework at the end of 2017, which previously required the mandatory delivery of paper invitations for receipt of registered items. Registered (signed for and/or insured) items differ from ordinary items in the way that they are delivered to the addressee against signature; these items are assigned a unique number in the global postal system, consisting of a 13-digit code with two letters at the beginning and at the end and digits in the middle, for example, AB123456789CD, and some of these items can be tracked in the countries that publish this code on relevant websites.

Since November 2017 Latvijas Pasts has already been delivering invitations through mobile text messages to customers for the receipt of ordinary small packets, which cannot be placed in the addressee’s letter-box due to their size. Latvijas Pasts sends out about 250,000 such mobile invitations to customers per month on average.
