Holders of the name Jānis will receive the biggest share of Father’s Day greeting postcards; most postcards outside Riga travel to Valmiera

Most greetings during the Father’s Day postcard sending campaign 2018 held by Latvijas Pasts and the Latvian parents’ organisation Mammamuntetiem.lv have been sent to fathers with traditionally the most Latvian name Jānis, just like during the last year’s campaign. They are followed far behind by those called Andris and Juris. A total of 17,000 greeting postcards will be delivered free of charge to dads throughout Latvia until Father’s Day, the 9th of September. The biggest share of the postcards outside the capital Riga, similarly to the campaign last year, will travel to Valmiera. On the 9th of September, during the Father’s Day Festival in Vērmanes Garden, there will be also an opportunity to send photo postcards, dedicated to dads and taken on the spot, from the Latvijas Pasts wall.

Within the fourth Father’s Day postcard sending campaign the users of the social networks Facebook or Twitter got registered for sending the biggest number of postcards dedicated to dads so far: 17,000 greetings will be delivered to addressees throughout the country. Most greetings – a total of 1,140 – will travel to those named Jānis, while the next most popular names of fathers to receive the postcards are Andris – 621 postcards and Juris – 509 postcards. The recipients with the most popular names are followed by those called Aivars, Edgars, Māris, Kaspars, Aigars, Ivars and Uldis.

Outside the capital Riga, where over 1,100 postcards will be delivered to dads, the biggest share of greetings will travel to fathers in Valmiera – 675 postcards, Liepāja – 523 postcards and Tukums – 367 postcards. The top ten cities where dads will receive most postcards also include Jelgava, Ventspils, Bauska, Kuldīga, Cēsis and Ogre.

On the 9th of September, during the Father’s Day Festival in Vērmanes Garden, Riga, held by the parents’ organisation Mammamuntetiem.lv there will be an opportunity to send another interesting surprise from the Latvijas Pasts wall free of charge: a photo taken on the spot that will be made and delivered to the addressee with a special dedication in a postcard format.

Latvijas Pasts has held Father’s Day postcard sending campaigns on the website www.nosutipastkarti.lv, where it is possible to login using one’s Facebook or Twitter account, since 2014. Nearly 16,000 greeting cards were sent within the campaign last year.

By combining the postcard sending tradition with the possibilities offered by modern digital technology, Latvijas Pasts has organised the postcard sending campaigns on social networks since 2011. The most popular of them are Mother’s Day and Father’s Day postcard sending campaigns.
