Opening hours extended in 54 more post offices across Latvia to deliver items before Christmas

Due to a substantial increase in the number of postal items as a result of the growing use of e-commerce services for purchasing various goods, opening hours have been extended in 54 Latvijas Pasts post offices throughout the country on the 20th, 21st and 22nd of December, which are the last working days before Christmas, in order to issue the maximum possible number of items, which have been received at the post offices, to customers. The final day for delivery of items before Christmas is the 21st of December.

In order to be able to issue the maximum possible number of items, which have been received at the post offices, to customers before Christmas, the opening hours of a total of 54 post offices throughout Latvia have been extended by one to two hours on the 20th, 21st and 22nd of December. 39 post offices will be working overtime on the 20th of December, 44 post offices on the 21st of December and 52 post offices on the 22nd of December. The extended working hours are mainly intended to ensure the delivery of items, providing, if needed, other necessary postal services to the customers.

Starting from December 2018 special fast pick-up counters for collecting postal items have been operating at the 41 busiest and most frequently visited post offices, while the opening hours have been extended in 14 post offices in Riga, Kurzeme and Zemgale since the beginning of December. In the last week before Christmas, which is the most hectic pre-holiday period, several dozens of post offices with extended working hours are being added to the list.

With the rapid growth of online commerce, the number of items received and processed at Lavijas Pasts grows every year, and it traditionally doubles at the end of the year due to the increasing number of letters and postcards that are sent as holiday greetings in December. The number of inbound international small packets handled by Latvijas Pasts throughout 2017 reached 8 million units, and by the 14th of December this year more than 8.5 million of such small packets have been processed.

The last day for delivery of items before Christmas this year is the 21st of December and for delivery before the New Year holidays – the 28th of December
