Postal items are being actively transported to the USA, Canada and Ukraine this week

As the winter holiday season has come to an end and the customary airfreight traffic to foreign countries has resumed, postal items to the USA, Canada and Ukraine are actively being sent this week. Due to the limitations of freight capacity of the airlines item air traffic to the USA was restricted from mid-December 2018 and a full embargo was imposed on the acceptance of postal items to Canada and the airport of the Ukrainian capital Kiev: in the former case it was due to the prolonged strike by the Canadian postal operator Canada Post workers and in the latter case it was caused by the inability of Kiev airport to handle all inbound items.

With the start of the new year and the end of the winter holiday season, which is marked by intense passenger and freight traffic around the world, postal item air deliveries to countries in regard to which airlines have established restrictions on cargo acceptance due to their overload have also resumed.

At present, practically all items accumulated in the Sorting Centre of Latvijas Pasts have been sent to the United States, and it is expected that the remaining postal item cargo will also be sent to Canada this week – delays are possible only for bulky parcels that take up a lot of space and therefore cannot be shipped all at the same time.

Sending of postal items by air to the airport of the Ukrainian capital Kiev will also resume this week. It should be taken into account that it will take time to send all the items that have been accumulated since the 20th of December 2018, and the delivery process will be implemented gradually depending on the airlines’ capacity of receiving items.

The end of the year is traditionally the time when the volume of postal items and all type of freight increases several times, often creating congestion and disruptions in their delivery.
