Number of press subscriptions continues to grow, showing an increase of 18,000 subscriptions in 2019

Upon completion of the traditional three-month subscription campaign, a total of 430,823 print media subscriptions have been taken out for press deliveries by Latvijas Pasts in 2019, and this is by 18,139 subscriptions more than a year ago. The share of press subscriptions for a period of 10 to 12 months keeps increasing relative to the total number of subscriptions. There is still the opportunity to subscribe to your favourite periodicals in any of the post offices or through the website www.abone.pasts.lv after the campaign is over.

The steady trend in the growth of subscriptions to printed press has been observed for the second year in a row: the number of subscriptions for 2018 grew by 14,000 subscriptions or 3.5% compared to the previous period, and for 2019 it has increased by 18,000 subscriptions or 4.4% compared to last year.

Analysing the results of the three-month subscription campaign, Mārcis Vilcāns, Chairman of the Board of Latvijas Pasts, points out: “Within the subscription campaign for 2019 we particularly highlighted the positive impact of reading on the development of beneficial daily habits or, to paraphrase Rainis, The one who is going to last is the one who is willing to read! The results of the campaign are pleasing to us, as they confirm that in cooperation with the publishers we have captured the attitude of mind of both the existing and future readers. Reading printed press, just like writing and sending postcards and letters, is still part of a modern lifestyle, despite the age of digitalisation in which we all live.”

Most readers subscribe to press for a longer period of 10 to 12 months, and this has been a growing trend in recent years, possibly reflecting the improved solvency of the population. The share of long-term subscriptions has reached 66% of the total number of subscriptions, increasing by 4.4% compared to the same period a year ago.

25% of the press subscriptions have been taken out through the subscription website www.abone.pasts.lv, 32% in post offices or from a postman and 43% of the subscriptions have been received for deliveries from publishers.

Magazines account for 65.45% of the total number of subscriptions made.

There will still be the opportunity to subscribe to your favourite periodicals for 2019 after the subscription campaign is over: the newspapers and magazines issued in Latvia during the relevant subscription period will be delivered in two business days if the publisher has provided for this possibility; other periodicals will be delivered from the beginning of each full month, and the time of receiving international print media will depend on the schedule set by the supplier and the specific subscription price period.
