Inga makes it to the top of the most greeted mums’ names this year; most greetings travel to Riga, Valmiera and Tukums

A total of 41,500 postcards will travel to mums across Latvia within the Mother’s Day postcard sending campaign organised by Latvijas Pasts for the ninth time. Unlike the previous two years, changes can be observed in the top most greeted mothers’ names: Inese and Dace have been joined by Inga, replacing Anita, which was the third most popular name previously. The most popular destinations for receiving greetings have also changed: outside Riga most of the greetings will traditionally travel to Valmiera, as well as to Tukums and Cēsis, rather than to Kuldīga and Ventspils, as a year ago.

With the approach of Mother’s Day, Latvijas Pasts traditionally invited users of social networks to greet their mothers, grandmothers, girlfriends, aunts or godmothers by sending special design postcards, which were available in a limited amount to anyone interested by logging in on the website www.nosutipastkarti.lv through one’s Facebook or Twitter user profile. A special novelty during this year’s campaign was the possibility to greet one’s mother with a postcard created by actress Ieva Florence, host of the TV programme Māmiņu klubs (Mums’ Club) and journalist Kristīne Virsnīte or Radio SWH on-air personality Kaspars Breidaks.

Most greetings on Mother’s Day 2019 are addressed to the women called Inese, to whom 997 greeting postcards have been sent. 931 postcards will travel to Daces and 916 – to Ingas. The fourth most greeted mums’ name is Iveta, whereas Anita, which was ranked third in 2018, is the fifth most greeted mums’ name this year. It is followed by Ilze, Sandra, Līga, Aija and Inta.

Outside Riga most postcards, just like last year, will travel to mothers in Valmiera, which, unlike in 2018, is followed not by Kuldīga and Ventspils, but by Tukums and Cēsis. These cities, in terms of the number of the greeting cards sent, are followed by Ventspils, Liepāja, Bauska, Jelgava, Kuldīga and Saldus.

All accurately filled in postcards will be delivered to mothers throughout Latvia until Mother's Day, which will be celebrated in Latvia on the 12th of May this year.

The Mother’s Day postcard sending campaign is the first of the social network campaigns established by Latvijas Pasts, and it has been held since 2011. Interest in this campaign is very high, and it is growing every year. The first Mother’s Day postcard sending campaign held by Latvijas Pasts in 2011 saw the participation of 4,867 Twitter users who filled in about 6,500 postcards.
