Implementation project of the new cash register systems of Latvijas Pasts has been completed – 600 workplaces in more than 400 post offices have been modernised

In the spring of 2019, Latvijas Pasts concluded an extensive technological modernisation project of the postal network, which was launched at the end of 2018. All post offices have been equipped with modern cash register systems, new payment card terminals and devices which ensure the electronic signature of customers for receiving registered items. With the introduction of the new systems, the overall speed of service and data processing in post offices has increased several times, at the same time ensuring a higher level of their protection against external risks. The total investment in the modernisation project exceeds 2 million euro.

Latvijas Pasts has introduced modern cash register systems in 411 post offices, upgrading a total of 600 workplaces. The new equipment meets the most up-to-date legal requirements and its performance is about four times faster than that of the devices operated in the company before: the newest cash register systems use the latest operating systems and antivirus versions.

Along with the replacement of the cash register systems with the new ones, the post offices have also been equipped with the latest generation of payment card terminals and electronic signature devices. Payment card terminals have now been replaced at 440 workplaces, and their number is expected to increase, gradually installing them at the remaining workplaces in 2019. In turn, electronic signature devices have been connected to all cash register systems, making it possible to opt out of using paper documents in the process of delivering registered items.

“The introduction of the new cash register systems in post offices has helped us to improve customer service, because the performance of the new equipment ensures faster provision of services, and this is important for both our customers and employees. In turn, electronic signature devices are a way to not only accelerate processes, but also to become more environmentally friendly, allowing us to save about a tonne of paper on average per month,” Mārcis Vilcāns, Chairman of the Board of Latvijas Pasts, points out.

The total investment in the implementation of these modernisation projects exceeds EUR 2.1 million.

The most significant growth and development projects of Latvijas Pasts in 2019 are related to the improvement of the capacity in regard to processing and delivery of items.
