Most greeting postcards on Father’s Day are still received by dads called Jānis, Andris and Juris in Riga and Valmiera

Most greeting postcards during the Father’s Day postcard sending campaign held by Latvijas Pasts and the Latvian parents’ organisation Mammamuntetiem.lv have been sent to fathers named Jānis this year too. Their proportion on the list of the top names of the greeting postcard recipients has increased significantly this year compared to the previous year. The dads named Jānis are followed by those called Andris and Juris, and most of the holiday postcards, just like in the 2018 campaign, will be received by dads in Riga and Valmiera, as well as in Tukums and Liepāja. As part of the traditional postcard sending campaign run on social networks, 16,000 postcards will travel until Father’s Day, which will be celebrated in Latvia on the 8th of September this year.

During the Father’s Day postcard sending campaign, which is held for the fifth time already and where the users of the social networks Facebook and Twitter had the opportunity to prepare holiday postcards for sending to dads across Latvia, most of the greetings will be received by fathers called Jānis who have been sent 1,319 postcards this year, and this is by 179 more than men named Jānis received in the 2018 campaign. Andris is the name of the second most popular recipient group of the Father’s Day postcards, and the number of postcards sent to them has dropped by 66 postcards compared to last year, amounting to 555 postcards. In turn, fathers called Juris will get 449 postcards, and it is also less than last year when 509 Father’s Day greetings in the form of postcards were sent to those named Juris.

The name Juris on the list of the top most popular names of the postcard recipients is followed by Māris, Edgars, Mārtiņš, Aivars, Kaspars, Aigars and Normunds, but in comparison to last year’s campaign there are no more fathers called Ivars and Uldis in the top ten.

This year fathers living in Riga are being greeted with 1,450 postcards, and this is more than in 2018, when 1,100 postcards were sent to them. Outside the capital city, 822 Father’s Day greetings are travelling to Valmiera (675 a year ago), 630 to Tukums (367 a year ago) and 598 to Liepāja (523 in 2018). Dads are also actively being greeted in Jelgava, Cēsis, Bauska, Sigulda, Ventspils, Ogre and the surrounding areas of these towns.

Latvijas Pasts has held Father’s Day postcard sending campaigns on the website www.nosutipastkarti.lv, where it is possible to login using one’s Facebook or Twitter account, since 2014, raising awareness of the role of the father in society and promoting Father’s Day.

By combining the postcard sending tradition with the possibilities offered by modern digital technology, Latvijas Pasts has organised the postcard sending campaigns on social networks since 2011. The most popular of them are Mother’s Day and Father’s Day postcard sending campaigns.
