Postal item traffic with Finland is still hindered – the strike by Finnish postal workers is extended until the 8th of December

The strike by workers of the Finnish postal operator Posti is extended until the 8th of December; therefore the exchange of postal items with this country is still hindered. A full embargo on airmail items to and from Finland has been imposed during the strike. Only surface exchange of mail with Finland is ensured to a limited extent.

The strike by Finnish postal workers started on the 11th of November and its initial term was two weeks, until the 24th of November; however, the strike has now been extended until the 8th of December.

As a result of the strike the postal operator of that country Posti has imposed a ban on accepting airmail items to and from Finland until the 8th of December. At the same time the exchange of postal items by surface continues to a limited extent. It means that the exchange of postal items with Finland is still hindered.

Due to the embargo, from the 11th of November postal items addressed from Latvia to Finland are accepted at Latvijas Pasts and, as far as possible, according to the instructions of the Finnish postal operator, are directed to that country by land routes; however, restrictions on this mode of transport and longer delivery should be taken into consideration.

The Finnish postal operator Posti apologises for the inconvenience caused.
