Daugavpils post offices No. 1 and No. 5 will be merged from the 15th of January 2020

As a result of the assessment of the trends in using the postal services and the number of the post offices in the area of Daugavpils City, from the 15th of January 2020 Daugavpils post offices No. 1 and No. 5 will be merged. Daugavpils residents will continue to be provided with the full range of postal services, as before. To ensure a smooth merger, on the 14th of January Daugavpils post office No. 5 will be open until 1 PM, and Daugavpils post office No. 1 at 42a Rīgas Street will start welcoming the former customers of post office No. 5 already at 9 AM on the 16th of January. The customers in this area can also use the nearby Circle K fuel station at 97a Stacijas Street to collect their postal items.

With a view to promote the provision of more economically efficient postal services in Daugavpils and provide postal services to residents in line  with the actual level of demand for services, a decision has been made according to which Daugavpils post offices No. 1 and No. 5 will be merged from the 15th of January 2020. As a result, the nearby Daugavpils post office No. 1 at 42a Rīgas Street will take over the functions of Daugavpils post office No. 5. On the 14th of January Daugavpils post office No. 5 will be open until 1 PM to ensure the transfer of all functions to Daugavpils post office No. 1. After the merger of the post offices, the receipt of postal services in Daugavpils will continue to be ensured in five post offices.

The opening hours of Daugavpils post office No. 1 are more convenient for customers, as it is open Monday to Friday from 9 AM to 7 PM and Saturday from 9 AM to 3 PM, thus ensuring convenient receipt of postal items to working customers. It should be recalled that Daugavpils post office No. 5 is open part time with a lunch break: from 9 AM to 1 PM and from 1:30 PM to 6 PM and is closed on Saturdays, which is why the decision to merge the post offices has been taken to streamline the services. Customer service in Daugavpils post office No. 1 will be permanently provided at four workplaces equipped with cash register systems every weekday.

In the future the customers in the area serviced by Daugavpils post office No. 5 will be able to receive their postal items in Daugavpils post office No. 1. In addition, the customers may conveniently collect their items from Circle K fuel station at 97a Stacijas Street situated not far away from the current Daugavpils post office No. 5. Additional information about the possibilities of collecting items from Circle K fuel stations is available here. In turn, other postal services are also available in any post office, as only the collection of postal items is linked to a specific area.

Daugavpils post office No. 1 is equipped with the In-Out customer flow management system, which regulates the customer movement on the spot in the post office and enables the customers to apply for the services remotely using the mobile app. When a customer has applied for a postal service remotely and taken out his or her queuing ticket, he or she can see not only the ticket number, but also the number of the people waiting for the particular service before the customer, the progress of the queue and the expected waiting time. If necessary, the queuing ticket may be postponed for five minutes or cancelled. The mobile app informs the customer when there are three customers remaining in the queue before him or her and when the customer’s turn in the queue has come up, also showing the number of the counter where the service will be provided.

The remote application service is available on both iOS and Android devices. In order to use it, download the Latvijas Pasts mobile app and select the particular post office, which is marked with a symbol of a ticket in the section Pieteikties rindā (Join the queue). The Latvijas Pasts mobile app can be downloaded here:

The residents of Daugavpils may also receive the necessary postal services directly from a postman at their place of residence if it is difficult for them to get to the post office. The postman can provide the following services at the customer’s place of residence: receipt of money orders and pensions, payment of utility bills and other bills, purchase of stamps and envelopes, dispatch of postcards and letters, press subscriptions, applying for home delivery of items, etc.

The number and locations of the post offices in Daugavpils City are determined by the Decision of the Public Utilities Commission’s Council On the Universal Postal Service Obligations, which stipulates that Latvijas Pasts must provide five permanent post offices in Daugavpils City. Latvijas Pasts has exceeded these requirements so far, providing the services in six post offices, but after the merger of the post offices the provision of postal services in Daugavpils will fully comply with the obligations.

Precise information on the receipt of postal services in the area serviced by Daugavpils post office No. 5 after the 15th of January 2020 will be placed in the letter-box of each customer residing in this area starting from the 16th of December 2019.
