From the 1st of January 2020 new universal postal service tariffs come into force – rates can be easily calculated in the pasts.lv service calculator

The new universal postal service (UPS) tariffs approved by the Public Utilities Commission come into force from the 1st of January 2020, ensuring more convenient types of postal items to customers. The new tariff model provides for a transition from the previous 240 different basic tariffs to a simplified system where only three factors affect the tariff of any item to be sent: the item weight, whether the item is ordinary, registered or insured, and the geographical zone to which the item must be delivered. If the customer processes the item himself or herself through the self-service website of Latvijas Pasts https://new.manspasts.lv/, the tariffs for sending registered and insured items will be lower. Anyone can easily calculate the new UPS rates in the digital calculator of Latvijas Pasts available at www.pasts.lv.

The amendments of the UPS tariffs only concern the regulated market segment, except the tariffs of delivery of subscribed press. The new system foresees a move away from the division of items into two classes, A and economy B, providing only the priority class A deliveries in the future.

The new UPS service structure provides for the new classification of items, moving away from the hitherto usual division into letters, postcards, items in wrapper, small packets and parcels. Instead, customers are offered a clear terminology, dividing all items into two large groups: letter-post items, which will include the current postcards, letters, small packets and items in wrapper, and parcels.

The forwarding tariffs will depend on three factors: the item weight, whether the item is ordinary, registered or insured, and the geographical zone to which the item must be delivered. The division into zones is affected by both the demand for sending items to a specific country – the higher it is, the lower the cost price of sending items – as well as other costs, including item delivery rates within the country of destination.

If the customer processes a registered or insured postal item himself or herself through the self-service website of Latvijas Pasts https://new.manspasts.lv/, the registration and insurance charges for the item will be reduced by 29%. Any natural person or legal entity may process a registered or insured item using the self-service website of Latvijas Pasts: after registration in the system it is necessary to enter the data required for processing the item, print out the documents prepared automatically by the system and attach them to the item. Once the item has been fully processed in accordance with the terms of service, it may be delivered and paid for at any post office. You can read more about this service here.

The self-service website https://new.manspasts.lv/ allows the user to create an archive of the registered items processed by him or her, saves the recorded addresses and offers to process each subsequent item using the data from the archive, thus saving time for re-entering information.

You can find out the exact new UPS rates and calculate the cost of sending a particular item according to the new UPS tariffs in the digital service calculator of Latvijas Pasts available at www.pasts.lv.

Latvian UPS tariffs and their structure had not been changed for more than 10 years; the previous types of postal services were outdated, complicated and no longer compliant with the domestic or global market situation and the modern consumption habits. Therefore, Latvijas Pasts developed and proposed for approval a new, modern tariff structure model to improve the provision of the universal postal service and make the tariffs simpler.

In recent years Latvijas Pasts has been actively pursuing service and customer care improvement measures, strengthening the customers’ trust and the company’s long-term competitiveness.

More detailed answers to the questions about the new types and tariffs of the universal postal service items can be found in the section Tariff changes of the website of Latvijas Pasts www.pasts.lv.
