Restrictions and delays in delivery of postal items in Italy

Due to the restrictive measures taken to control COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) in Italy, special precautions have been introduced throughout the Italian territory from the 10th of March to the 3rd of April 2020 or a later date, which affect the quality of service for all inbound and outbound items.

In order to promote the containment of COVID-19 in accordance with the precautionary measures announced by the Italian Government, the Italian postal operator Poste Italiane is observing special restrictions to protect the health of employees and customers from the 10th of March to the 3rd of April 2020 or a later date.

The Italian postal operator has introduced limited people-to-people contact, with a particular focus on the protection of staff safety, resulting in a significant reduction in the labour resources involved in the logistics chain both at item sorting locations and at post offices, thus affecting all postal operations and performance. These restrictions have an impact on the quality of service for all types of inbound and outbound items, such as express mail, letter post and postal parcels.

Having regard to the emergency situation, the Italian postal operator cannot guarantee an adequate quality of the provision of postal services and anticipates delays in the delivery of postal items throughout the territory of the country until the situation returns to normal.
