Restrictions and delays in delivery of cross-border postal items

Following the decision taken by the Cabinet of Ministers at an extraordinary meeting to suspend international passenger transportation from the 17th of March 2020 as a measure to contain the outbreak of COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019), the exchange of postal items with foreign countries will be significantly restricted and/or delayed. Latvijas Pasts continues to accept items for delivery abroad: they will be stored at the company’s sorting centre and sent to the addressees as soon as this is possible. At the same time, Latvijas Pasts is actively looking for alternative ways of cross-border postal item delivery.

Taking into account the emergency situation declared in the country and the decision taken by the Cabinet of Ministers at an extraordinary meeting to suspend international passenger transportation from the 17th of March as a measure to contain the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak, the exchange of postal items with foreign countries will be substantially restricted and/or delayed. This is due to the fact that most international postal items are carried by passenger aircraft. At the moment postal items are accepted at the post offices for sending abroad, but their delivery is expected to be delayed. All items will be stored at the Latvijas Pasts sorting centre and sent abroad as soon as this is possible.

At the same time Latvijas Pasts is actively seeking alternative ways to deliver as many cross-border items as possible to recipients in other countries too.

The cross-border delivery of postal items abroad will be restricted and delayed at least until the end date of the emergency situation, which currently is the 14th of April, unless there are further changes and restrictions.

If additional restrictions are imposed, Latvijas Pasts will immediately inform you of further actions.
