Customers will be served on request at 253 post offices until the emergency situation is terminated
Due to the state of emergency and the necessary measures to contain the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak, and in view of the fact that a large number of the institutions which accommodate the premises where postal services are provided have suspended their operations, the provision of on-site services at 253 post offices located in rural areas throughout Latvia will be suspended from the 18th of March 2020. Until the emergency situation is terminated, residents of these areas can receive postal services on request at their place of residence, applying for a necessary service over the phone in advance.

Most post offices in rural areas are located in the premises of the buildings belonging to the local governments, which are closed to visitors due to the declared state of emergency; therefore, as a precautionary measure, Latvijas Pasts will suspend the provision of on-site postal services at all of the 253 post offices in rural areas from the 18th of March 2020. Because of the low demand, postal services at these post offices were provided for one hour a day under normal conditions.

During this period, local residents will be able to receive postal services on request, and such services will be provided at the customer’s place of residence by the postman serving the area, or customers will be invited to visit the nearest post office. The postman at the customer’s place of residence will provide all postal services that were available at the post office: dispatch of postcards and letters, purchase of stamps and envelopes, delivery of items, press subscriptions, receipt of money orders and pensions, payment of utility bills and other bills, payments into the Postal Settlement System (PSS) account, etc.

Residents can also receive cash pay-outs from the PSS account through the intermediary of a postman. This service may be requested by calling the Latvijas Pasts Customer Centre on +371 67008001 or +371 27008001 or by sending an e-mail to info@pasts.lv. When requesting cash delivery at the place of residence until the 27th of March 2020, a reduced fee of EUR 4.88 will be applied to this service. During this period, Latvijas Pasts will monitor the demand for the service and identify its resources for further provision of this service on a demand basis.

Residents will be able to apply for other postal services at their place of residence by calling the dedicated phone numbers. A detailed list of the post offices that will serve customers on request in the future and the phone numbers for requesting postal services at the customer’s place of residence in each area is available here

A notice announcing the options of receiving postal services from the 18th of March 2020 will be put up at the address of each post office that will be temporarily closed.

If additional restrictions are imposed, Latvijas Pasts will immediately inform you of further actions.
