Latvijas Pasts is implementing enhanced safety measures in post offices by installing special glass protective shields at 500 workplaces in the largest and most visited post offices throughout Latvia. This solution is aimed at limiting communication between the post office operator and the customer. In order to install the shields as quickly as possible, the employees of the Latvijas Pasts administration go to the post offices in Riga themselves and do the necessary work. The placement of the protective shields across Latvia is planned to be completed by the end of the week.
Latvijas Pasts is installing plexiglass sheets to limit exposure in the largest post offices, planning to equip this way a total of 500 workplaces in nearly 300 post offices. The protective shields are installed in an effort to minimise contact between the post office operator and the customer. The placement of the protective shields is scheduled to be completed by the end of the week.
Although the emergency situation has been declared in the country, Latvijas Pasts continues its operations – all postal items are delivered by postmen and couriers, exchange of mail throughout Latvia is carried out by drivers and the doors of the post offices are open to visitors. In turn, the administration staff is also involved in technical work, such as placing protective shields in post offices, assisting with postal item delivery or regulating customer traffic in post offices, as well as working at parcel lockers. Mārcis Vilcāns, Chairman of the Board of Latvijas Pasts, points out: “I would like to say a big thank you to the staff of the company in these difficult emergency circumstances – to every postman, operator, courier, driver, parcel handler and administrative employee for their selfless involvement and the capability to continue work. I urge both customers and employees of Latvijas Pasts to take care of themselves and those around them, observing all recommended safety precautions.”
Following the emergency situation declared in the country enhanced personal hygiene measures have been imposed on the personnel of the Latvijas Pasts post offices in addition to extra disinfection measures for the equipment in the post offices. All postmen have also been appropriately informed and provided with disinfectants and other safeguards for personal use. Similar safety measures are also applicable to the employees of the sorting centre.
Latvijas Pasts urges customers to be understanding and to adhere strictly to all safety precautions when visiting a post office: not to visit the post office if they have symptoms of the disease, not to crowd and to keep a distance of 2 metres, to wait for their turn in the queue outside the post office, to make maximum use of the opportunity to apply for services at post offices remotely, as well as to use personal protective equipment and to practice proper hygiene.
