Latvijas Pasts postmen, couriers and drivers start to use personal protective face shields for additional safety

Promoting additional security in the delivery processes of postal items, this week Latvijas Pasts postmen, couriers and drivers who are involved in direct contact with customers start to use personal protective face shields. By the end of the week protective shields will be delivered to a total of more than 1,400 employees of Latvijas Pasts who provide services or deliver items outside post offices. In turn, 567 workplaces of postal operators at post offices throughout the country have been equipped with protective glass shields.

More than 1,400 employees are involved in the delivery processes of Latvijas Pasts postal items outside the premises of post offices, including about 1,200 postmen, 90 couriers and 120 drivers. For additional safety reasons in the emergency circumstances representatives of these occupations employed at Latvijas Pasts are starting to use personal protective face shields this week, which will be provided to all delivery employees by the end of the week, as soon as they are produced in sufficient numbers by the manufacturer.

In turn, 567 postal operators’ workplaces at all post offices have been equipped with protective plexiglass sheets to limit exposure, thus minimising contact between the post office operator and the customer as much as possible.

All Latvijas Pasts postmen, couriers and drivers have been informed of the necessary safety precautions and provided with disinfectants and gloves for personal use. Similar safety measures are also applicable to the employees of the sorting centre.

Following the emergency situation declared in the country enhanced personal hygiene measures have also been imposed on the personnel of the Latvijas Pasts post offices in addition to extra disinfection measures for the equipment in the post offices.

Latvijas Pasts urges customers to be understanding and to adhere strictly to all safety precautions: not to visit the post office if they have symptoms of the disease, to wait for their turn in the queue outside the post office, to enter the post office only when the service counter has become available, not to crowd and to keep a distance of two metres, to make maximum use of the opportunity to apply for services at post offices remotely, as well as to use personal protective equipment and to practice proper hygiene.

Latvijas Pasts has created a special question-answer section on the company’s website, which is available in latvian language in the news section of www.pasts.lv where the information is regularly updated.
