Riga post offices No. 14 and 39 will take over the customer service functions of Riga post office No. 6 from the 5th of August 2020

As a result of the assessment of the trends in using postal services, the post office premises and the workload, from the 5th of August 2020 the customer service functions of Riga post office No. 6 will be taken over by Riga post offices No. 14 and 39. Residents of Čiekurkalns area whose address has the postal code LV-1026 will be able to receive postal items at Riga post office No. 14 located at 15 Kokneses prospekts, Mežaparks, while customers in Teika neighbourhood whose address has the postal code LV-1006 will get this service at Riga post office No. 39 at 211 Brīvības gatve. Registered postal items can also be redirected to another address that is most convenient for the customer or to one of the parcel lockers of Latvijas Pasts, but other postal services that are not linked to a certain address may be received at any other post office.

The premises of Riga post office No. 6 at 310 Brīvības gatve do not satisfy the convenience needs of either customers or employees, and the analysis of the post office’s operation shows that its operation is unprofitable, creating an average loss of nearly 6,000 euro every month. Having assessed the location of the post office and the most advantageous solutions for the provision of postal services, a decision has been made to transfer the provision of postal services in the area of the said post office to Riga post offices No. 14 and 39 from the 5th of August 2020.

Customers residing in the area with the postal code LV-1026 will be able to receive postal items at the nearby Riga post office No. 14 located at 15 Kokneses prospekts, Mežaparks. Delivery of postal items for residents of Teika neighbourhood with the area postal code LV-1006 will be ensured at the nearby Riga post office No. 39 at 211 Brīvības gatve, which is easily accessible by several modes of public transport. Additional workplaces have been created in both post offices for customer service. The opening hours of Riga post office No. 14 are from 8 AM to 5 PM on Mondays and Wednesdays, from 9 AM to 7 PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays and from 8 AM to 3 PM on Fridays. Riga post office No. 39 is open every workday from 8 AM to 7 PM.

Registered – signed for, traceable or insured – postal items can also be remotely redirected to another address, such as an office or one of Latvijas Pasts parcel lockers, using Latvijas Pasts mobile app, while other postal services are available for residents at any post office that is most convenient for them, as such services are not linked to a specific address. The residents of the capital Riga may also receive the necessary postal services directly from a postman at their place of residence if it is difficult for them to get to the post office. The postman can provide the following services at the customer’s place of residence: receipt and dispatch of postal items, receipt of money orders and pensions, payment of utility bills and other bills, purchase of stamps and envelopes, press subscriptions, etc.

The last working day of Riga post office No. 6 will be the 4th of August 2020, when the post office will be open until 1 AM. The employees of the post office will continue to work in other post offices of Latvijas Pasts.

More information about Latvijas Pasts parcel locker services and their addresses is available here: https://pakomati.pasts.lv, while information about the options of redirecting registered items can be found here: https://www.pasts.lv/lv/privatpersonam/sanemsana/sutijuma-parvirzisana-latvijas-pasta-mobilaja-lietotne/.

The number and locations of the post offices in Riga are determined by the Decision of the Public Utilities Commission’s Council On the Universal Postal Service Obligations, which stipulates that Latvijas Pasts must provide at least 30 permanent post offices in Riga. Latvijas Pasts complies with these conditions by providing postal services in 35 post offices.

Precise information on the receipt of postal services in the area serviced by the current post office No. 6 after the 5th of August will be placed in the letter-box of each customer residing in this area starting from the 7th of July.
