Expanding the parcel locker network, Latvijas Pasts increases its total capacity by more than 1,000 locker boxes

Upon the completion of the first stage of the parcel locker network modernisation in August 2020, Latvijas Pasts increased its total capacity by 40% or more than 1,000 locker boxes, thus improving the speed of item movement and allowing for delivery and receipt of a larger number of items. The next stage of modernisation envisages equipping all parcel lockers with the latest generation of payment card terminals in the near future, but further plans are related to a substantial increase in the number of parcel lockers – including outdoor parcel lockers, and procurement for 60 new parcel lockers has already been announced to attain this goal.

Implementing the modernisation and expansion of the parcel locker network under the contract for the purchase of a parcel locker network signed with the venture capital fund Baltcap, 35 parcel lockers throughout Latvia were replaced with more capacious newer generation models by mid-August 2020. The total capacity of Latvijas Pasts parcel locker network has been increased by more than 1,000 locker boxes or 40%. These activities have been implemented under the contract with the venture capital fund Baltcap, from which Latvijas Pasts purchased an already functioning parcel locker network in August 2019: the contract sets forth that Baltcap shall replace the parcel lockers at its own expense

Parcel lockers in Ādaži, Aizkraukle, Alūksne, Cēsis, Daugavpils, Dobele, Jelgava, Jēkabpils, Jūrmala, Kuldīga, Ķekava, Liepāja, Limbaži, Madona, Ogre, Preiļi, Riga, Rēzekne, Saldus, Sigulda, Talsi, Valmiera and Ventspils have been replaced with more capacious newer generation models.

The parcel locker network in the capital has been supplemented with indoor parcel lockers in the post centre Sakta, 32 Brīvības bulvāris, and in the shopping centre Galerija Centrs, Old Riga, 16 Audēju Street and also with the first outdoor parcel locker of Latvijas Pasts, which has been operating in the shopping centre Rīga Plaza, 71 Mūkusalas Street since the beginning of August.

The next stage of modernisation envisages equipping all parcel lockers with the latest generation of payment card terminals, which will allow for prompt payment for the sending services, including by using contactless payment technologies. At the same time a significant expansion of the network with new parcel lockers is planned, and for its implementation Latvijas Pasts has announced procurement for the purchase of 60 new parcel lockers, envisaging their gradual placement both this year and in 2021 and planning to invest up to one million euro in this project.

Latvijas Pasts acquired the parcel locker network in August 2019, significantly expanding the item delivery and sending options, which are ensured by more than 600 post offices, postmen and couriers, as well as a network of Circle-K fuel stations and over 60 parcel lockers throughout Latvia.
