Latvijas Pasts launches a food delivery service from ELVI to customers’ places of residence in Latgale

In December 2020 Latvijas Pasts starts a cooperation project with the retail company ELVI to ensure delivery of food to customers’ places of residence in Latgale, thus promoting equal opportunities for the residents of this region to receive fresh produce at their homes. The delivery of food is especially important in the conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic, when it is safer to stay at home, but the store is far away and public transport is needed to get there. Food will be delivered in the rural areas of Latgale, taking into account that cities have a wide range of food retailers and suppliers represented in them and customers do not require additional delivery options. Such a food delivery model in cooperation with ELVI will gradually be implemented in other regions of Latvia as well.

Latvijas Pasts and ELVI have agreed on joint cooperation, launching a food delivery service for the residents of rural areas in Latgale and thus ensuring equal opportunities for people living outside cities to receive fresh produce. Food will be delivered to all addresses in rural areas, and deliveries will be provided by Latvijas Pasts postmen who use motorised vehicles for daily work purposes. The advantages of food delivery from ELVI through Latvijas Pasts include speed and easy access to every customer; moreover, such a model of cooperation between Latvijas Pasts and ELVI ensures safe shopping opportunities for residents of Latgale.

Mārcis Vilcāns, Chairman of the Board of Latvijas Pasts, points out: “Together with ELVI we are happy to offer this service, which is important to many residents of rural areas – receiving fresh food at their places of residence. The time of COVID-19 has taught us to take care of our safety, and this is especially relevant for the residents of remote farmsteads, from where it is often difficult to get to the nearest store. Latvijas Pasts, which operates across entire Latvia, will be of great help there thanks to our professional postmen. This time is a challenge for all of us, but Latvijas Pasts has created an additional opportunity to make good use of its resources. We start with Latgale, but will gradually continue throughout Latvia!”

According to Laila Vārtukapteine, Commercial Manager of ELVI Latvija SIA: “Distance shopping must not be a discriminatory advantage only for residents of bigger cities with good digital skills, so I am pleased that this cooperation project also provides those people who live at farmsteads with the opportunity to receive fresh and quality food via home delivery. This is an essential project that will make everyday life easier for many Latvian residents who, for some reason, cannot visit the store on their own. The mission of the ELVI store chain is to be the people’s store chain for every resident of Latvia, and it has been in existence for 20 years. I am glad that we have started this important cooperation with Latvijas Pasts in our anniversary year, thus further confirming that we are the people’s store for every Latvian homestead.”

The food offer available for ordering is included in a special catalogue, which was delivered free of charge to customers throughout Latgale, except for Daugavpils, Balvi, Krāslava, Ludza, Preiļi and Rēzekne, at the beginning of December. To order the desired goods from the catalogue, the customer must contact the specialists of the Latvijas Pasts Customer Centre by calling +371 27008001, a dedicated phone line set up for accepting food orders. The goods will be delivered on the next business day if the order is placed by 1 AM, but their delivery will not take place on weekends and holidays.

Food deliveries by Latvijas Pasts in cooperation with ELVI will gradually become available in other regions of Latvia too – currently postmen in rural areas of Vidzeme and Zemgale deliver food on a trial basis.
